Well as it was based on them learning Romeo and Juliet which was written when that was the English language it's too be expected....

That being said when I learnt Romeo and Juliet at school we learnt from a copy of it which was translated into (modern) English!

My favourite (close second all time movie) gay themed movie is Make the Yuletide Gay. Definitely worth a watch.

It was very sappy in my opinion. It just didn't strike a chord with me like it did for so many other people.

Obviously this has probably been mentioned, but I really liked Maurice after watching it last night and look forward to, one day, reading Forster's novel. What I especially loved was that it's a story of self-realisation [which, sadly, can still be relatable in today's world] as much as it is a romance.

I watched Summer Storm last night on Netflix. It was a really good coming of age story about a a guy who is in love with his best friend and I think a lot of people on here could relate to it. It's a German film, but there are English subtitles.

My favorite is The Love of Siam (thai) and Lost in Paradise (viet) even though it's really depressing ...I love watching asian movies so I can relate in a way with the issues there going through :/

The Curiosity of Chance This movie was kind of an odd one. It also didn't seem really realistic at times. With that said, it was an alright movie.
Mysterious Skin (this movie was twisted. Perhaps it could have been on of Joseph Gordon Levitt's lesser know, yet best performance ever.)
Brokeback Mountain (the movie was a bit different from the short novel.)

Has anyone seen the Korean movie No Regrets?
I thought it was nicely done and the actors were so natural.

some of the new good ones I've seen lately

    Children of God

Seriously one of the best indie films I have ever seen. It won a ton of awards and it is sorta sad but it is so beautiful and the script was so well written. It deals with the situation in the Bahamas regarding the progression of LGBT rights by looking at the lives of a number of intertwined individuals who don't realize how connected they are (think Crash).

    Bent

Deals with a gay man in Germany who is put into a concentration camp and follows the love story between him and another man in that camp.

    Another Gay Movie trilogy

Funny and raunchy movie trilogy that takes after the American Pie series only with gay male characters

    Harvest

good foreign film about two German farm hands meet and begin a relationship

    Violet Tendencies

Hilarious movie about a self proclaimed "fag hag" and her quest for love while dealing with her many LGBT friends. It is fun and happy.

    Paris is Burning

Excellent documentary on LGBT african americans, vogue, ball, and trans culture. Sorta sad end.

    David's Birthday

sad foreign film about a husband and father that finds himself falling for his friends son. Set in Italy.

    The Trip

this is a great movie about two men following their love story as it evolves over a prolonged period of time ranging from the start of the gay rights movement to the AIDS crisis. I loved this movie but it did end up being very sad.

    C.R.A.Z.Y.

Great movie about a boy becoming a man and dealing with his sexuality, some crazy brothers, and an unsupportive father.

    Patrick Age 1.5

One of my favorites, this happy story deals with a gay couple trying to start a family. When they go to adopt a child they experience difficulty when the 1 1/2 year old son they adopt turns out to be a 15 year old homophobe.

    Summer Storm

Great movie about a boy who goes to rowing camp and discovers himself while attempting to deal with the feelings he has for his best friend.

    Eyes Wide Open

Foreign film about an Orthodox jewish man in Israel who is a father and husband that falls for a mysterious younger man who he hires as an assistant.

I think Prayer for Bobby will be my favorite because I can relate to the story. I also like some french ones like "Just a Question of Love". Also Israeli movies like Yossi and Jagger. I haven't watched a lot ...

OW and I also like OZ, and Chris Meloni is my favorite one there. I know it's not a movie, but more a TV series...

Re: Which Gay Themed Movies have you seen...

Really loved Better Than Chocolate
Can't Think Straight is another great one. I also have Imagine Me and You to watch. Started to watch it online and liked what I saw, so decided to just buy it

Just one question..what are the thoughts amongst the gay/lesbian women here of The Kids Are Alright? I personally didn't like it because it seemed to me they found it impossible to make a mainstream gay film without one of the women wanting to leap into bed with the sperm donner father! :tantrum:
