Did it! Definitely the most out of my comfort zone I've been. Here's to personal growth and proving people wrong:slight_smile:

I can understand how you might feel that way. Some of us just need an excuse or push to consider making a change or doing something we know we should be doing anyway. Change is tough for some of us.

So, I have a favor to ask... I swim a great deal at our local rec center, so I see all the new folks coming in the first week in January. By the end of January, most of them disappear again with their New Year's resolution long forgotten. I do not want that to happen with my resolution. If I may ask, please hit me up with a reminder if I haven't reported in with a score. I think I may get an opportunity to come out to my friend and co-worker this week or next. She is coming back from medical leave and we are planning on having lunch out together. I feel confident about this! Thanks in advance!

New Year's resolutions are basically peer pressure for doing something good for yourself. Maybe cringe, but better than not having goals. I train year round anyway but this year's goal was about trying something a bit different.

Thanks! Almost a half year now. Whatever I say next will just sound like excuses, so I will just say I am working on it. Glad you are here to keep me honest with myself!:purple_heart:

My resolution at the beginning of the year was to train to compete in a bodybuilding competition by next year. I just started a week ago and I have a long way to go but hopefully, in a year I can compete.

That's awesome! The hardest part is getting started and establishing that routine. You did it! Now it's just churn and burn. Let us know how you are doing. You can do it !!!

Definitely will keep y”all posted and can't agree about getting started. I quit last summer after working out for 2 years straight and restarting was harder because I know what it took. When I felt that first burn :raised_hands::muscle::heart_eyes:

5:13 is now my PB, this morning was the second time I've done it. I was too fast at the beginning, I hit the half mile at 2:20 and in the last 60 seconds I could just feel the strength draining from me. Getting closer but it still seems so far away.

It's been a while since I don't post here... Well, it's been a strange time, but I've been able to manage it. A topic for another time, another thread...

As for my new year's goals, now that we've been through half a year... I'm making it!

I kept going to the gym, and last month I began a new routine. From two days, to three days a week. Focusing in all my body, but specially arms, back and shoulders. I'm not obsessed with physical appear, but I have to admit that I like what I see because of the progress I made and because that makes me go on and make it better!

I went running on two local runs and I'm happy with the results! Half on the ranking in both runs and 5 min / km. Not bad for a beginner!

I keep on therapy. I've fixed things with my friends. I can keep more self control on my dedication to job. And I began taking singing lessons! Last week I had my first concert, I sang "My Way"... and, oh my God, it felt great!

It's been a good year. Not an easy one, but really promising and, for now, satisfying...

Congrats on sticking to your schedule. Don’t forget chest though, it’s one of the major muscle groups. My upper body program is one day per week chest & triceps, one day back & biceps, another day shoulders & triceps. For best recovery I only try to work one major muscle group to failure at a time, so I wouldn’t train chest & back on the same day for example. For a long time I also used to train abs/core on the same day as shoulders and I think that might be why it’s my weakest movement. I also do two leg days per week, but once I hit my speed target I will drop back down to one a week.

What distance were you running 5min per km? If you’re doing 5km runs at 5min/km then that is a really good time for a beginner.

Thanks for the advice! Yes, I follow a program that my instructor designed, trying to focus on different groups. First day is back, biceps and abs. Second day, shoulders and legs. Third day, chest, triceps, abs and low back.

And I'm running 5km per 5 min, yes! I'm not focusing on running, but I like to participate in any run I find, just for the feeling that I can do it!

Are you using free weights or machines?

Running is great for cardio and fitness. I don't think it does much for legs really, big & strong legs are built in the gym. But running is good training for your heart.

I'd be interested to know what time you can run 1.6km, at the fastest speed you can maintain. My goal at the moment is under 5 minutes. Currently 5:13. Its very different to run a short distance at that pace compared to longer distances at a slower pace, which is what I'm more used to. The longest run I have done is 25km and I think I was around 9 minutes per km for that, but there was a lot of incline.

I'm using free weitghts for biceps and some shoulder training, but almost all the routines are with machines!

Now that you mention that... I don't know what time can I run that distance! I have to check it out. While I'm doing cardio I guess I'm on 1.5 km / 9 min., but then I'm not running as fast as I can.
