2112, well said. Im a democratic socialist like bernie and ive said, if its hillary v rand paul, im voting for paul. We cant afford to have another corporate candidate. You said youre a libertarian socialist, id vote for gary johnson as well over hillary but with the same reservations you said that you had for bernie. I know exactly where you coming from. And it would be funny to see awesomegaytheists version of a left winger. Im so liberal that im borderline libertarian, if that makes sense...oh and by the way...EXTERMINATE! lol, love dr who

This isn't an argument, just a question. I haven't met a lot of Hillary supporters as enthusiastic as you seem to be. Perhaps you posted it and I missed it, (if you have sorry I missed it) but what is the main reason (or reasons) why you are supporting her for the nomination?

I'm confused about that. I thought Libertarians were like socially liberal but fiscally conservative. Or as one person who claimed to be a Libertarian told me once, "I want the government out of my bedroom and my wallet."

Yes. I dont want govt telling women what they can and cant do with their bodies. But i think they should give subsidies to groups like planned parenthood to help women pay for cancer screenings and what not.
I dont think the govt should have a banned substance list but i do think they should provide rehabilitation for people that need to get clean if they want to.
Both those two points can be fixed with a single payer healthcare for all system.
I pretty much believe in govt helping americans but not forcing issues on them, let people make their own choices for themselves but have the potential help in place if they want to use it.
I do not believe in foreign interventions and regime change, i think we should focus on the american peoples problems before we start forcing our ideologies on other people.
Now where im completely against libertarianism is that i believe paying taxes is patriotic. We are all in this together and we should pay it forward to help everyone and advance our society in the sciences and education etc.

Not to sound too pedantic, but Bernie's a social democrat, not a democratic socialist. He hasn't advocated putting the means of production under democratic worker control, so he isn't a socialist. The two terms are often conflated, but they're very different.

As for libertarian socialism, that has nothing to do with right wing "libertarians" like Rand Paul or Gary Johnson. It's the original use of the term "libertarian" in a political context: anti-statist socialism, or socialism that seeks to abolish/smash/[insert preferred verb here] the state during the transition to a socialist society. It's also called anarchism, but most people associate anarchism with chaos and edgy punks, rather than any coherent political ideology, so I generally avoid that term.

I just don't see why you're so interested in her. She just won't win the general election if she gets the nomination :/.

The best way I've heard libertarianism explained to me is "I want gay married couples to protect their marijuana plants with guns"

Okay so for those of you who are wondering why I claim she is going to win let me just explain a few things first.

    1. I don't actually want her to win
    2. I don't actually support her
    3. You don't have actually any proof of me saying 'I want her to win' because I never said that anywhere I just said that most likely she is going to be our next president.
    4. I only say she is going to win because I feel she is just too powerful and can not be beated despite what the polls say.
    5. I don't actually like any of the candidates and if I had the option to vote I probably would not.

    Hey everyone,

The original intention of this thread was apparently forgotten here.

Also, the discussion is starting to get a bit heated, so it is better to end it here.
