God intended people to be straight

That's right. God did intend for people to be heterosexual. That's why men have penises and women have vaginas, for the sole purpose of reproduction.

 

Whenever I hear those religious excuses for homophobia, I think of Patton Oswalt.

I just laugh. Mostly the people thinking that (especially where I live, we're very LGBT friendly) are plain stupid. No time for convincing them. If they do want to discuss, I have some very good arguments both using their holy book and without. They can't win against me

I don't think the Bible is a great book to base morals on. There is plenty of vile shit in the Bible and obsolete rules (such as not eating shellfish) that we no longer follow today. I do think the Bible is an interesting read and can bring you closer to God if you read it correctly, but it has been mistranslated and misinterpreted for years by churches to pursue their own agendas.

If a homophobe is going to go the fundamentalist argument, then he needs to do it all the way. Fundies have a tendency to cherry-pick what is a sin and what isn't. They love to go on and on about how homosexuality is such an "abomination" but rarely ever go on about eating shellfish or wearing fabric. That just makes them hypocrites.

I honestly tell people "If that's true then I guess I'm going to hell." When anyone makes any accusations around me using any Christian theology (It's sad because I'm a Christian).They usually don't say anything after that. They just look at me kind of funny, especially the one's that believe everyone's going to hell and use any of the arguments above. They just don't say anything, especially knowing I'm a Christian too.

Here's my theory.

I believe God makes everybody the way they are for a reason. None of us will ever really know that reason, but we can guess. If God can make babies have genetic defects, he can make people gay. I think he maybe makes some people gay to teach us tolerance and acceptance of people who we perceive as "different" from the norm. That is just my two cents.

PS I am not a Christian but I am agnostic.

 

God is insecure, and is secretly homosexual. He's like the bullies in school who call people gay, but are often gay themselves. Someone just needs to tell God that it's okay to be gay.

I used to think that way too. I thought that there was something "wrong" with me because I didn't really like guys. Because of my strict Christian upbringing, I was raised to believe that God intended for everyone to date the opposite sex and if you didn't it was "wrong". Of course now I believe this is definitely a false doctrine.
