For those who don't already have kids, do you want to have kids? And it doesn't matter how you plan to have kids, whether it's the natural way (if you're bi and end up with someone of the opposite sex), adoption, sperm/egg donation, or step-kids, they all still count as your kids. For me personally, I lean strongly toward no. I certainly don't want to have kids of that are biologically mine. I have some genes and things that I don't want to pass down to any child. I'm not sure that I would want to adopt with a spouse. I might be willing to have a stepchild. That way the child is very close to my spouse, then my spouse can help them adapt to me and vice-versa. One problem with having a stepchild is when it comes to child's other parent and if there are any custody issues. I would prefer if the child was at least school age. I really don't want to raise a baby.
If I was going to do that, I would’ve wanted to do it 15 years ago probably. And I didn’t see it as a possibility then.
I don't really have a straight forward answer. I wouldn't want to give birth to a child. If I met someone who already has a child and I was really into them, I'd be ok with it since it wouldn't be the first time I've been in that sort of situation. If I met someone whom I was really into and they didn't have a child, but they wanted one, I would prefer that we both adopt.
No, for several reasons. I just don't like kids. The thought of working a 40 hour work week, just to come home and care for kids, really doesn't sit well with me (I realize and respect that it's very rewarding for some people). While there might be a 1% chance of me raising kids, there is NO chance that I want a child brought into this world for me (aka strictly adoption if anything). I don't think my genetics are good enough to pass along. The world seems (is?) like a worse place to raise a kid than just a couple decades ago in the 90s. Even if I liked kids, I think it would be extremely depressing raising a child keeping in mind the world that they will live in (destroying the earth, politics that seem to be getting crazier and crazier etc etc)
Hell no. I am absolutely not cut out for parenthood, regardless of whether the child has my awful genes or not. Dog parenthood is pretty great though.
I don't want kids when I'm an adult, mostly because I don't think I would be a good parent. Maybe when I'm in my twenties, I'll change my mind, maybe I'll be a little bit more suited, but right now it seems unlikely. It's not that I don't like kids; I just don't think I'm the right person to have them.
I am unable to have children, but I would adopt if I was in the financial and social circumstances to provide a good life for a child. With discrimination and inequality being what it is in the U.S., I don't see that happening.
Oh, wow. I wasn't expecting this much hostility. For me, maybe... I've issues stemming from parent interactions early on, and certainly don't want to repeat those mistakes. A lot of pressure from mother, especially since I'm the eldest and my brothers seem to have the same issues.
I really don't want kids. If I had a partner that really did, I would probably settle to adopt an older kid/teen. I have no interest in biological kids or young kids whatsoever.
Wow. Most of the posters above didn't like it that much. Almost all of my friends (all straight) don't like it either. I want 2 or 3 children of my own. That will be very difficult I'm afraid. But this is one of my greatest wishes.
Interesting. Same here. In this era raising children is much more different than the past. Parents have much less free time. While parenting needs even more responsibility than the past.
I want to add, I meant to have children in a straight marriage. That's what I have in my mind now. Well, This new world is very crowded and busy comparing to the past centuries. We have to take care of our children all the time. Because they can get effected from unwanted/bad things everywhere. Like, There wasn't TV/Internet in the past. Also their expectation is way more than children in the past. And in the past, people have more free time for parenting. Life was so simple in the past. There are various businesses to take care for a 21st century person.
