"You're gay? So does that mean you like...."

From those that I have told, I have had my fair share of stereotypes thrown at me:

"You can't be gay! You're such a prude!" (Because all gay people are promiscuous, apparently...)
"Does this mean you want to have 'the surgery'?" (I guess transsexual=gay now!)
"How would you want to be with the same sex?" (For the same reason why you would want to be with the opposite sex...)

The best one by far though is when girls think that I'm suddenly a misogynist because I'm gay.

 

I had to explain to a nurse what asexual was on a recent hospital stay. kind of weird.

 

I've never really gotten any stupid questions either. The comment I have gotten several times from straight guys is that it's got to be awesome because it only stand to reason, they say, that it would be easier to talk guys into having sex than it is to talk girls into it. It's a comment--I'm not even sure it's a stupid one, because that has indeed been my experience.:lol:

I'm not out publicly as yet, but one of my concerns is that, if I said I was bisexual, that a straight guy might assume that therefore I must be attracted to him...after all, I did just say that I like guys as well as girls...which is as irrational as assuming that just because I happen to like eating, that I like every single recipe on the planet. I don't know if this is what happens, but it is a concern I have, having noticed the unease, bordering on suspicion, with which most straight guys I've known regard lgbt folk.
