There's an area of Belfast called 'Belvoir' which is pronounced 'beaver' Don't know how that happened

I've always pronounced it with three syllables: "Wo-ster-shire". Okay, that doesn't look very good. However, the "Wo" sound is NOT like "Woo" even though it looks that way. Instead, it sounds something similar to "uh" -- but not quite it still has some of the "o" sound in it. That's really the hard part of the word. After that there is the "ster" which is similar to "oyster" with the "oy" dropped, and then "shire" which is pronounced identically to the "shire" in New Hampshire.

We can't pronounce it because the spelling is so unlike the phonology! British place names are even worse than French names.

Hahaha it's English - it's to be expected. The language is known to be a double whammy when it comes to its orthography & phonology.
