In my case, it's about creativity; designing characters and practicing drawing them.

In my opinion they're more easy, fun and versatile to draw.
Plus, I second adorable fuzz

Well, I don't personally go around identifying being a furry. I don't do fursuits, or any cons as furries do.

Mostly because I'm 16, and my parents wouldn't really understand the concept of furries. LOL

Maybe when I'm older I may become one but meh XP

'Course! I'm not like a top-notch artist or anything but I sure hope to be someday.
My scanner broke so im like using a crappy phone camera to post my things.

One of my newer things here, a piece of concept art for one of the baddies
    [IMG]
(Holy hell, it posts the image waaay too big. Colour looks better in person, but my anatomy is needing improvement among many things.)

But I want to draw more like this:
(One of my favorite artists, I aspire to one day be on her skill level!)

(My other favorite artist, same here! Inspiring me to do better~)

That's the fandom for me, amazing art inspiring me to be a better artist. Heck, it's why I started drawing in the first place! It's my fifth year; I have a long way to go. One day, I want to be like these two. I'm not good at anything else really, so I want it to be my job; though it's gonna need a ton of improvement for that to be realistic. I started a bit late. ^~^'

Problem with being an artist though is everyone and their mother wants you to draw them things. I'm pretty bad at denying, I'm a pushover; But I really disliked people asking me to draw them football symbols and mary sues. Eh, I graduated. Glad that's over.
Hopefully it won't start back when I get to collage, right?.. right?

Actually having a fursona would be a good criterion for being a furry, but that would lead to unnecessary exclusions from the fandom... For those who don't have one (like me, don't let the tiger avatar fool you ) they could be called "anthropomorphism-enthusiasts", but yeah, "furry" is easier to say.

    That's pretty good, I've been learning to draw myself. I'm still pretty terrible at it thought ;_;

Wow this stuff is so awesome!

You have no idea how jealous I am of you, like absolutely no idea.

I'm almost tempted to ask you to draw my 'sona but that'd be evil lol

    This thread...what xD
For the record a furry is an exceptionally hairy man (not quite sure why people like that kind of thing, but some do)

Not sure if a joke, but in this context certainly it means what we've all been talking about above ^

I've never heard that word being used to describe hairy men. Bear comes to mind, but not furry.

Yeah I tend to hear bear more than furry.

    Heh, thank ya!
That's the reason I started drawing, being jealous of people with awesome art.
I use that jealousy as motivation: "If I keep practicing, someday I'll be as good as (Insert awesome artist)!"
If a talentless fangirl like I was can learn, anyone can with enough practice, ya just have to want it hard enough!
Holy hell that sounded cheesy, but it's true. Eventually I want to be that "cool art lady" that makes museum art look like shit, just like the awesome people I look up to.

Just gotta put your heart into it, you can achieve far more than me. I'm by far the laziest person I know.

An animal with human form. The pictures posted above are good examples. Also kemono is a Japanese anime/manga interpretation of furries.

I disagree that all furries oversexualized. I draw furries myself without giants breasts or penises....it just ain't my thing.

    Furry here! *waves enthusiastically*

I would say the one big thing linking all furries is art.
Furries love anthropomorphic art. After that, the flavors of individual furry vary greatly. There are fursuiters, there are people who create their own character or many characters, there are people who are artists or writers, and there are people who just enjoy the community.

There does tend to be a lot of warm, welcoming people in the furry community, and a large percentage of LGBT+ furries. There's a prevalence of free hugs. Furry art and fantasy also tends to be a way for people to explore their sexual orientation/gender identity. I know a few people who were able to accept themselves being gay or bi or trans after being exposed to the fandom.
