What do/did your parents say about gay people in general?

Well... My mother used to be very conservative. Tea party conservative. Since she and I started talking about politics and social issues about three or four years ago, she has become more and more liberal. She now classifies herself as 'left-wing independent' and does as much as she can to support gay people... With the exception of a few dumb remarks, like calling hipster guys queer. But she is very easy going now. For those of you who think there is no changing someone like that, there is hope. It might have to do with her agnosticism, though, being more open to discussion.

Now my father on the other hand...eek. He's a total bigot. He thinks its child abuse for gay people to adopt. And is extremely religious. He believes every word of the bible. Everything. Including women needing to stay silent and that they are property. His daughter from a previous marriage also happens to be a lesbian and he has not talked to her in fifteen years. His brother is also gay- and he hasn't spoken to or about him in a decade. I have not officially come out to him yet, but he knows. We fight constantly, and he is always judging me as a 'horrible sinner'. I've never done anything wrong, never smoked or done drugs, never even kissed anyone, always got perfect grades when I was in school... But I disgust him.

My grandma is very disagreeing with marriage equality and anything to do with gay rights.
My grandpa doesn't care what people do with their own lives.

All in all, I don't suffer because I never see my father, and rarely see any of the rest of my family. It has gotten better.
