    I think it might also be because in English, the male form of a word with only a male and female form is also the generic form of it. Mankind (using the male form) refers to all people, male or female. Actor is the generic, while actress is the feminine form, that form is even starting becoming outdated. There are many more examples, of this as well.

    These "first thoughts" threads are getting out of hand... I should make one on California, if it hasn't been done already.

    A night of video games, eating out, and reminiscing about the high school days with an old friend was just what I needed to get me out of my slump. There are so many cool people I've slowly lost contact with over the last five or so years, and I'd love to say hi again and see how they're doing before parting ways again.

    Guess it's time to get a head start on my homework.
