Social Anxiety?

I got 17. (10 fear, 7 avoidance). So low, I can't even answer. I took this a few years ago, pre-transition and got 110, though.

 

Introversion is in fact independent from social anxiety. Introverts just require alone time to recharge and get tired from being around people for too long, but there are many introverts who do not fear social situations, like you.

But I think introversion can lead to social anxiety in today's extroverted society and standards, where we're told to be outgoing and energetic around others, and we're judged negatively if we are not.

Does anyone think the prevalence of our social anxiety has to do with insecurity in our sexuality and/or gender?

I'm not surprised by my score. I've always been shy and nervous in social situations ever since I was a kid. I'm trying to improve, but I still have some anxiety whenever I have to speak in front of a crowd or talk to someone I've never met before. But it's nice to know there are other people on the forum going through the same thing as me.

87 I have severe social anxiety. I don't feel like it's severe. I think some of these questions were practically repeated so we'll go with marked, I guess. Never been diagnosed, but I plan on seeing a counselor at some point (just gotta get around to it.)

If I'd taken this test 20 years ago, the scores would have been very different indeed. Life has presented me with certain challenges that I've had to face, whether I liked it, or not and in facing those challenges I have become stronger and more resilient.

A little bit of exposure to challenging situations can be a positive thing for you and it's often easier than putting a whole lot of effort into avoidance.

The only thing that I truly loathe is being watched while working. I avoid a lot of the other stuff, not out of fear, but because I find them boring (like giving speeches) or gross (using public restrooms).

I am honestly the most extroverted person I know. Not much scares me.

Though I do have a lot more anxiety about life in general: money, if I'll ever find a meaningful job, the environment, poverty, other people and their well-being and all the suffering I see in the world...so though I can be a very anxious person overall, it's not expressed socially. I do often have the feeling bad things are going to happen, though, but it's a much more visceral, general way, like my senses are turned up too high.

Kinda funny though. I have been diagnosed for SA by a doctor about 2 years ago. So I must have come on leaps and bounds ... or the test isn't very good:lol:
