Oh my...lol...what did I start??? I've been asking this question in a few different places, and it's funny how it always turns into people getting frustrated. Seems people are VERY passionate about Mac-v-PC. It's actually an interesting social experiment.

That being said, I do appreciate the input. I think I'm fairly set on a Mac. As soon as my tax refund comes back, I'm going to go for it.

Now...everyone return to their respective corners and let's all just get along.

Well, you caught me! At age 7, I was downloading illegal stuff from the net!

No, I always had virus protection up. I installed a camera driver once, and it ruined my computer (I didn't know you didn't have to. Not being a computer genius, I didn't know!)

Look - you obviously love your PC. that's great! I think it's a very good system for people who know what they are doing and can find a way to properly maintain it. I'm sorry, but I think that spending 800 bucks on a laptop (my PC in 2008) should have been something that could handle my lifestyle. I'm not an avid gamer, I don't run a ton of stuff. But it just didn't handle it.

My Mac works best for my life, right now. I recommend it to any young person who is going to be consistently using a computer. But my parents would totally be fine with a PC, because they are cheap. If PC's and MAC's cost the same, I think PC would be in big trouble.

Let me add this - I am not saying it takes a computer genius to run windows. Not at all. It's very simple. But it takes a genius to keep it running for a long time.

Well, there you go. When you download illegal content, you're setting yourself up for all sorts of malware that can slow down your PC to a crawl. And it doesn't matter if you have the best virus protection; there are always viruses out there that anti-virus utilities cannot pick up or do not have the signatures to. Thus, I'm sorry to put it bluntly, you can't blame Windows.

Nor am I questioning your preference. I don't care what you use. If you prefer Mac, great. All I simply was putting across is that I disagree with you, it was not meant as a fanboyish cat fight. In actuality, I like Macs and Mac OSX (I want to get myself a Mac Mini for iOS development), but at this moment in time my preference is Windows 7, but I'm considering moving to Ubuntu (Or Linux Mint) again because I don't like the direction Microsoft is taking with Windows 8 and I can only latch on to Windows 7 for so long.

There's nothing wrong with a bit of debate as long as no personal insults are thrown around.

But glad you made a decision and I hope you enjoy your experience with a Mac. Like I said, it's very different from Windows so don't get dishearted if you struggle in the beginning. There are many tutorials and forums that can aid you in your transition.

i got my first computer and it was a mac, at age 5 it was alright i got it for free like my four macs afterwards, mac to have a better os than microsoft. but there hardware is far over priced. mac had less software available and compatible, although you have the advantage in America where alot more stuff has to be windows and mac compatible, your kinda screwed anywhere else in the world. i do like the ease of use on mac and the fact the glitch and break down far less than any pc i have owned, i pretty sure i could go upstairs and get my 20 year old mac out of the boxes its in, and it would probably still be as functional as i remeber, where as i can't think of any windows machine of that age i have could i say the same

I was being sarcastic. At 7? I didn't even have a computer at 7! Haha.

So I didn't download illegal content.

I didn't want this to become some cat fight.

I, too, was being vocal about my opinion. I have had too many problems with Windows, but you haven't. I think it's great that you have had a great experience. I probably did something wrong. A lot of people love windows. It's special to me - its what I started out with. I'd love for it to be stable for me. But we don't get along.

Oh, and forgot to add - in all honestly, I am not trying to be rude. I hope you didn't think that. Best to everyone!

Really?! lol, I had a computer since I was 5 (and no, I'm not joking). Seems quite alien to me that people in this generation are not exposed to computers at an extremely young age. Oh well.

Completely honest. When I was 8 or 9 I got my first computer, and we didn't even get Internet until I was 10. I was the computer guinea pig in my family. I was in second grade and thought an email address was something that attached to your mailbox.

Let's see on the MAC vs PC....where do I begin....

Honestly for me it's a draw. I go both ways. While there are many pro's and cons as those that have explained with both systems. My personal experience was this.

    My experience with any computer was the Macintosh computer.....BACK when it was the rainbow pattern logo. And in my old elementary school we had those big old floppy disks That were big fat and square that you had to insert into a disk drive to play ANYTHING. Shows you how old I am. >>;;;

Needless to say. I was around to remember when the first Nintendo came around to be frank. Yeah. But I'm getting off track. MAC vs PC

I use a Mac laptop that came around in 2009 it is a Macbook and it ticks me off that it no longer exists. =3= Anyways upgraded it to the max in ram and hard-drive and to this day minus the battery halfway going through it's cycle of life, I have been using it for art, music, movies, personal family dvd making etc and making audio podcasts/ radio dramas on some websites for people to enjoy.
Granted mac computers DO NOT COME CHEAP. Sad but true even now. You buy one you are technically buying the name and everything that goes with it... It sucks I know, and sadly I cannot make a computer. But technically this is the second computer I have been through the first one I bought was another mac an iMac from 2004 which my brother who is now 19 used his skills connect it to another to mac music with his band. So for me a Mac is something if you are to the more artistically inclined.

But don't get me wrong, you can also do art stuff with the PC like Photoshop and Sai and Open Canvas, those are a few that I know of as of this moment. As for the music making on a PC, I haven't fully explored it as clearly. What I do know is. When I saved up last year I asked if I could purchase a windows laptop, despite having a MAC. I wanted to use RPG Maker and get a refresher course in windows and see what it was like to use one. Plus make some videos off the wii. So for me a Windows is a gaming/art/video making device. As you can tell I am creative on both computers.

Not long after our first Mac decided to kick the bucket due to space memory issues. Our family got a windows computer...refurbished most likely and got a windows computer and used one ever since till I was in high school was reintroduced to Macs again and then began using both back and forth.

Now probably everyone has said everything what their is to be said about Windows and as for me my experience with them has been decent that I don't HATE either of them. If you take care of them and treat any machine with respect. Like you don't leave it out in the rain and then expect it to work. Or don't do anything absent minded like to it, then you will be fine.

Both laptops despite their faults, and both have their faults.... no computer from what I have seen is a saint, but they both have good points. But I do hope like many leave you well informed and you make a good decision for yourself.

And little funny story. I am currently typing this on the windows...my mac is charging for the night.

Depends all on wether or not you want to buil a PC or buy a pre built because prebuilt PC's are TRASH, absolute waste of l money. But I feel the same way with Macs, their hardware is hideous for the price your paying. Unless you do a shit ton of PhotoShop which as far as I know runs better on Macs you'd be best with building a new PC with win8. Also budget matters alot.

I feel you're right most of the time, but the computer I'm using now was an off-the-shelf. 3.0GHz Core i5 processor, 1TB hard drive, 4Gb of RAM, and a passable graphics card for like 700 dollars. It starts up in about 5 seconds and runs heavily modded games, Arma 2, Skyrim, etc. like it's nobody's business. All I could really ask for is more RAM slots, because the motherboard is not upgradeable as is.

Point is, yes you can do far better with less money on a custom build, but I wouldn't say they're all trash. More like "Proceed with caution."

RAM is so cheap now its probably a good idea to just get a 2x4 set of 1600mhz RAM its only like $40 for quality stuff if you have the cash.

    Hi,

It's entirely your choice if you want to change to a Mac, but here are a few suggestions of mine. I do have experience with both:

Firstly, if you are into taking photos, designing website etc then Mac wins hands down. If you are big into gaming then I would suggest a PC.

Mac's are over priced for what you get; this is mostly because you're paying for the brand, the logo, while they can say that there OS is the best in the world. This is simply NOT true. They lied as well, Mac CAN get virus!

A problem with Mac is that there computers are restricted to what version of Mac you can run; so for example if you have a Mac that's a few years old, then it might not be able to run the latest Mac OSX 10.8. This is a major pain as it means you have to stay with the version you have or buy a new Mac. PC's never have this problem. You could have a very old computer and there is a GOOD chance that it could run XP or even a newer OS.

Another thing is that depending on what Mac you have, they can get very expensive if components start to fail!

I have to admit, they do take some getting used to and they are fantastic for editing photos. Sadly I'm more into Windows and Linux and unfortunately I would never buy a Mac computer due to the comments I stated earlier. One thing to point out is to NEVER have an entirely Mac network; as you're just asking for trouble!

    Kind regards,

I'll add that if you are very careful and treat your PC like a king (don't do anything remotely bad - no illegal downloading, no porn, no anything that might have a chance at a virus) you will be ok.

From experience, it depends on your antivirus programs, your download discretion, and your taste in porn.
