90% chance that's the fault of viruses, not the hardware, in my opinion.

I'm not concerned whether it's a mac or a pc  Both can run linux perfectly well.
No viruses, great technical support, and brilliant 'easy' distributions. It also politely recognises any other OSes installed, unlike Mac or Windoze, and allows you to switch between them and access files from them.
Most programs you would need have a linux version, an alternative to the program, or will run through a compatibility layer called wine.
Fastest, most stable and configurable system I have ever used

Biggest problem with PCs: The susceptibility to viruses.
Biggest problem with Macs: It doesn't always like my university's network lol
Biggest Problem with Linux: I've never tried it but I barely know anything about it, it's not used by many so that's my biggest problem. You can call me a label whore but I'll use a more well-known type of brand of computer than an operating system I barely know much about.

It all depends on your personal preferences. Both Mac's and PC's have different user interfaces and design styles. Their operating systems are almost incomparable due to the completely their different makeup. Both can be used for basically the same purpose; it's all about what you feel comfortable using the most.

    I personally prefer Macs.

I want a Macbook Pro and to put Windows Seven on it. I love Windows Seven. I love how they made it so you can use the superbar as a dock for your programs as well. It saves so much space and is so useful. LOVE

Actually, now with Windows Seven, Macs are less secure. Macs can be hacked much more quicker than Windows Seven without any antivirus software. Mac viruses are becoming much more common too. The only reason Windows has so many viruses is because so many people use it compared to Mac.

I have a mac and a pc.. and ultimately depends on what you are going to use it for.
more music or animated, video, media stuff go for the mac, but if its just everyday documents, gaming, or just normal stuff go for a pc.. just not vista

Macs are way over priced and the only truly decent things they have made is thier operating system and thier keyboards.

the best thing to do is build your own computer and then put Mac OS on it.

MAC! All the way. It is by far the best purchasing decision I ever made. I will never go back to a PC. MACs are a lot more user friendly. I used a PC my entire life and still had trouble figuring some things out. With my MAC, that I've had for a little over a year, I have found everything I need in less time. Viruses are hard to get. You don't get annoying anti-spyware notifications every day that may be spyware all by itself. MACs are miracles.

I'm currently using a laptop with windows XP.
I don't really care whether I use a Mac or a PC, but I really would like a MacBook Pro because they are powerful, energy-efficient, and environmentally friendly (for which I'm willing to pay). Why a 17" MacBook Pro costs 2,249€ and 2,299€ is beyond me, though...

It's all really what you're willing to shell out your money for... In my opinion Macs vastly over priced :\ If they weren't so expensive, maybe I'd stick with that instead of a PC. But I'm so used to the PC, and my 2 button mouse that I enjoy this. It all comes to money with me xD If I can get a better set of equipment for about the same price as an apple computer then that's the only reason I'm going PC.
Also the anti-conformity of the recent trend to buy a Mac :| xD I like Mac's cool little features that you can do, and it's awesomely clean interface... i like my PC because it's cheaper, and runs faster for less ¬.¬
    That's about it ~ XD

I've always wondered why people do that. I have a couple of MacBook Pros and the only reason I put up with the hardware is because they are the only supported platform for OS X.

If I was going to run Windows or Linux I would go with a Lenovo ThinkPad in a heartbeat. You get a better resolution screen, easily removable hard drive, removable optical drive, a user replaceable battery, and a trackpoint mouse. The only feature they don't have that I would like is the MagSafe power connector.

Mac or PC? That depends upon one's primary computer usage and budget.

IMO anyone who is planning to run a GNU/Linux distro on what is ostensibly Windows-only hardware would do well to stick with nVidia-based graphics, and to Google the machine's make, model, and revision number, plus the prospective distro(s) version, in order to flush out any potential 'gotchas' before doing a full install. (Using live CD/DVD install discs to confirm hardware compatibility is prudent as well.)

After using the above vetting process, and then dual-booting between Windows XP Pro SP2 & 3 and Ubuntu 8.04, 8.04.1, 9.04, and then 9.10 on the older PC hardware I use (an ASUS P4P800-E Deluxe mainboard, S478 P4 3.20 GHz, 3GB RAM, nVidia-based eVGA 6200 AGP 3.0 graphics etc) for about a year or so, Windows XP gradually fell by the wayside as my Ubuntu experience - and frustration with Windows' anti-malware rituals - grew.

When I recently bought an acer Aspire 5517-1536 (an inexpensive notebook to use in riskier environments), I did a shootout between its included install of Windows 7 Home Premium and Ubuntu 10.04. Windows 7 lasted a month before I switched to running a 100% Ubuntu 10.10 setup on both of my machines.

For those who are the market for a new PC and who are also weary of Windows' malware issues, here are some links to sources of GNU/Linux-compatible hardware:

Thanks for all of the input everybody! Seriously. So tomorrow I'm going to the Apple Store to get all of my questions answered. At the moment my hope is to come home with a brand new macbook pro. We'll see how it goes.
