I asked my mom what gay marriage was and she told me it was when "a man marries a man or a woman marries a woman."

My response was "If they love each other why does it matter?"

I have zero recollection of "discovering" gay people. I don't remember that moment at all. I have an openly gay uncle, so maybe that's why?

I was kept very sheltered and only cared about things that matter to kids. Sexuality was not one of those things. As fair as I kew, everyone was straight. I didn't know that gay people existed until 6th grade and I didn't know any openly gay people until one of my close friends came out in 8th or 9th grade. Here's what happened.

You know how people use the term gay to be derogatory? I thought that gay just meant stupid. In 6th grade I went to a Catholic school and there was this kid that annoyed the crap out of me. I made a video and in it I said "i'm doing this because INSERTNAME is gay". I guess somehow the kid found it (more than likely because I was best friends with his best friend). Anyways everyone at school was shocked that I would say such a thing. If I call someone black and they're white, you just push it off your shoulder. My mom and dad later explained to me that gay people existed. I was then very confused why anyone would be upset by me calling someone gay. Was it bad? Two people of the same sex that like each other is bad? Why would that be? It wasn't really until recently that I made the connection that Catholics are typically homophobic.

I learned that when I was a kid. I was pretty shocked, until I realized I might be gay as well haha.

Two men can love each other? I have a lot to learn about the real world...
Six years later, I found out I'm one of those men...

I was 9, so I was mostly indifferent on it. Just seemed something trivial at the time.

I don't really think there was an exact moment when I discovered that gay people exist. If there was it didn't really phase me, I guess.

I never 'discovered' what being gay is. I kind of just figured it out.

I heard about homosexuality when I was a child.
First thing that came to mind was, "Meh."
Who cares, they don't seem so different to me.
Then things happened and now I'm here.

I was seriously puzzled as to why I had to 'discover' them in the first place. Why were they hidden in the first place? Were they aliens or something?
Even after an adult explained it to me (my dad in a very conservative {read: hateful} way), I still didn't see anything wrong with them.

I was about 4 when we moved in across the street from lesbians. I don't think it struck me as different or odd at all, no one talked about it so how was I supposed to know.

Now, learning that people did think it was odd and different and WRONG, that blew my mind! I was horrifically upset that one couple's love could be seen as different from another's based on something that I really didn't think should matter.

All I cared about was their kids were happy, their cats and dog were happy, and they made awesome sandwiches.

I was never really "told" about gay people. When my mother explained love and marriage to me, she explained that "when you grow up you fall in love, sometimes its a boy and sometimes its a girl", so too young to really say much about it. Also, our next door neighbours and my mums best friend (single mum) were a gay male couple, so I guess I knew from them too.

Sterted experimenting with other boys way before I discovered girls and before I knew there was anything called "gay". I learned pretty quick that boys kissing and fondling other boys was not socially acceptable. I learned the hard way. I don't recomend it.

I still have yet to attend a pride parade. I would love to someday.
