I thought this job would be good for me at first but it seems like it's been nothing but bad , my hours suck I have to work from 4pm to 9pm I don't get home til 10pm which sucks . On top of that there are guys that started stalking me before and after work trying to talk to me after i told them I'm not interest and worst these guys are 40 to 60 year old pedo bears that keep bothering me I reported them but it doesn't seem to stop . On my job the people i work for don't seem to give a crap about me or anyone else they cut my pay, I also found out from one of my coworkers that they talk crap about me when i'm not there and one of them even said if they were in charge they would firer me . I've done nothing but work my butt of on this job but get treated like sh**t every time , I just hate that place so much I got sick last week and called out because i got sick and these people had the nerve to give me a warning for getting sick and calling out . Yesterday was the worst I took break to use the bathroom after i was done i went back upstairs to clean up the place after work and the guy in charge had the nerve to ask me where i was . I was thinking in my head what the hell I can't go use the bathroom . ughh >.< I hate this place so much I've had it I felt so mad yesterday to because they told me i couldn't get the week off for Christmas but they gave it to other people but me and I have worked on holidays with out complaining and i can't get time to spend with my family . I feel so mad i could seriously punch some one in the face . I just hate that place and want to leave it behind and never go back . My coworkers are fine but the people i work for sucks and if i hear one more dumb crap I'm gonna say something i don't wanna say . I'm currently looking for another job and any of you guys got any advice on good job search tips ?

Hi there! I'm sorry to hear that your job hasn't turned out what you thought it would be. Given that you hate your job and it has become a place where you don't feel safe anymore, I can only encourage you to find something else as soon as possible.

It would help to know in which industry/field you are looking for a job, but going in person, with a resume in hand (that is tailored to a typical position at a place that you would like to apply to), and introducing yourself to others is a good starting point.

I would also suggest that you go to different places and just ask as to whether they are hiring at the moment. If you come across a store/company that is hiring, try to speak with the hiring manager first - i.e. show your interest, and make sure to note his/her name. When you submit your resume then, write a brief cover letter (a paragraph), address it to that manager and reminding him/her of the conversation that you had with him/her and lay out as to why you are the best person that position you are applying to.

If by chance you are informed that you have to submit an application online, submit it, but also make sure that you inform the manager that you have done so. In other words, do a follow-up. In fact, every time you submit an application, whether it is in person, online or through e-mail, try to do follow-ups as much as you can.

Also, ask your friends or family members if they know of anybody that is hiring. Having a referral can help in at least getting an interview or a chance to have a one-on-one meeting with a manager/potential supervisor.

You are welcome. For the retail sector, I would suggest that you start going in person, with a tailored resume in hand, and try to speak with the manager(s) of the store(s) you would like to apply to then. I would also suggest that if you do go in person, choose an outfit that you would wear to an interview. First impressions count! When you go in person, and from the moment you enter the store, every sales associate, manager, will scan you from head to toe and their first impressions will determine whether they'll have a closer look at your resume.

Also make sure that you prepare a few answers to questions (before you go in), such as: why do you want to work at this store/this retailer? Why do you want to work in retail? Are you working at the moment, and if so, why do you want to leave your current job?

What sector of retail do you prefer? Fashion? Technology? Foodstuffs?

Do you want to be a manager eventually?

Would it be possible for you to apply to positions that would allow you to pursue your dream job/career, already? It might help to begin volunteering as a translator. For which languages would you like to be a translator for?

You could try volunteering with non-profit organizations who help people of different cultural backgrounds, and are perhaps still learning to speak the English languages. Those kinds of organizations usually will have volunteer translator positions.
