There are too many great albums to list, so I'm just gonna go ahead and say what I think are the great albums for my generation. By that I mean the albums that had a huge effect on music and will be remembered in 50 years time

Whatever People Say I am, That's What I'm Not- Arctic Monkeys
    Is This It- The Strokes
    The Libertines- Up the Bracket
    Franz Ferdinand- Franz Ferdinand

I've chosen those four because, in the UK at least, they came out of nowhere and made guitar music cool again. Before them the charts were dominated by largely mediocre soft-pop, which all sounded the same. Each of these albums has a unique sound, and importantly, made guitar music cool again. Sadly, guitar music has once again receeded behind generic pop, but I'm hopeful this year it will become popular again

May not be 'culturally defining' or w/e, but these're my personal favourites.

I love the way my most played bands are Arcade Fire, My bloody Valentine, Radiohead, the White Stripes and Sonic Youth but Itunes Genius keep recomending that I should buy Lady Gaga because 'you have music by Kraftwerk'

In my opinion, the best album yet made is Dark Side of the Moon (1973) by Pink Floyd. Conceptual masterpiece. I can't think of a way to improve on that album, to this day it amazes me and probably forever will.

Plus it gets queer points for syncing up with the Wizard of Oz. I seriously love the dark side of the moon (as you can tell from my signature), definatly one of the best ever, I think Speak to me/Breathe in the air my well be the best opening to an album ever. Also it stayed in the chart 741 weeks! You wouldn't get that anymore, even/especially with an album that good.

heh ya, that equates to something like 14 consecutive years on the chart. Well deserved.

My favourite is 'the great gig in the sky'. Beautiful, yet wordless, representation of death.
