Gay guys: How do you feel about being "the gay best friend"?

    Hi, the suggestion I can give you is that, try not to worry about what could happen down the road. Doing that, it only helps to make you more nervous, withdrawn, unsure how to interact with them. It is okay, if they are disinterested at this point. The new term has just started; give it a bit of time to let things settle, and let the chips fall where they may.

    You can still find friends, and have the feeling of having a 'fresh start.' Don't give up on working towards that goal because, and as Destin has pointed out, there are opportunities, and chances to meet, get to know others. How would you feel about tying to move away from spending time on the internet, and replacing the time that you don't spend on the internet, joining and trying to participating in a club. For sure, being shy, makes it a bit more difficult to reach out, to go to an event, just trying to meet people. That said, sometimes, making the initial effort can help in seeing things, and feeling about them, differently.
