Pffffff I know, half my friends are vegitarians, but eat fish, they all think I'm weird too *cries in a corner*:tears:
I got food poisoning after eating it once, several weeks later I saw a news report about how unhygienic sushi is, I was like "great timing"
I like sushi hand rolls (maki) a lot. I love the taste, but I can't tolerate the texture of the raw fish on its own so I don't care for the nigiri or sashimi. If you are ok with the raw fish, I'd suggest getting something like a tuna roll, spicy tuna, or salmon roll. Those are all very tasty and don't contain any avocado. I'm also partial to tamago rolls, which are just sweetened egg.
HELL YEAH! It's so yummy, tho it smell terrible so it may give a bad vibe to people on a first impression, but it's one of the tastiest things ever.
Now this is a topic that caught my eye! I recently got into sushi about a year ago. Before, without having even tried it, I assumed I would hate it and cringed whenever someone mentioned it or ate it in front of me. The first I tried was generic vegetable rolls, which was average. I then tried smoked salmon, sweet chilli and cucumber rolls which changed my life! I find the rolls need something meaty or fishy in them, so the smoked salmon works a treat!
I had an awesome Nigiri combination plate last week, but because the chef decides which goes in it, and I'm not super-familiar with the names, tastes, and features, can only speculate that it went something like this: Naguro Ebi Saba? Sake? Hamachi? Hirame? Tako Also not a fan of avocado (worst Mexican evar), which is one reason I didn't finish my California rolls (there were like ten of them). I've also had fish roe, which is fun, because you can hear them popping/crunching when you bite them. It took me a while to get over the texture and idea of eating something raw, but now prefer it to other types of cooked and mixed types! Not the type of dish that usually fills me up, and more like appreciating fine scotch.
I really like sushi a lot. It's not my favorite, but there are some that really catch my interest. When I was in Japan, I got to taste a lot more different variations. Some I liked, some I didn't. If you're just getting into it, the first thing I can recommend are these. -Spicy Tuna (It's already close to home and the spice cuts a bit of the flavor. It was my gateway into trying more, personally. It's mild in the first place) -Crab (You can find 'Spider Rolls', which are soft-shelled crab at most places. This is my absolute favorite and always will be. Tender and delicious.) If you want to stray away from fish, you can try vegetarian or egg. I loved the egg for a long time, though some of the places, I find, make their egg too sweet. So beware of that if you're going for it. If you're out for adventure and strong flavor, you could try the roe (which is generally also the most expensive on any menu) or one of the stronger fish flavors like salmon or the various other types. I know salmon isn't generally considered a strong taste, but it's there because it's a flavor I am not a fan of personally. XD Hope that you find something that you like when you start! The great thing about sushi is that it usually has a little something for everyone if you can find the right taste. c: Try different kinds and see what suits you!
You guys actually convinced me to order from the sushi place down the street. I hope you're happy >_>
I'm heading off to a all you can eat Japanese/Chinese food place. I will be pigging out on California rolls.
I've tried some exotic sushi and it's actually very good. Usually I go for basic California rolls though. I'm adventurous!
I like Chinese food. I like Japanese food. I like avocados. I don't like sushi. I don't like the way it looks and I don't like the way some sushi places smell. I am not an adventurous eater.
I tried sushi once and I did NOT enjoy it haha, maybe it was because my brother put some weird spicy sauce on it. Maybe i'll try it again someday.
