Go directly for the nigiri. I honestly don't consider stuff like California Rolls and spicy tuna to be legit sushi. But, I still find it tasty I strongly recommend ootoro, a fatty tuna sushi.
I love sushi, but I don't like avocado! I usually stick to nigiri and sashimi. Nigiri usually is just the fish on top of rice. My favourites are mackeral, eel, and octopus. I really want to try horse sashimi. If I get maki usually it's just kappa maki, which is cucumber. I also really like tataki, which is tuna (or beef where I used to go) seared on the edges with pepper. And a 'sushi' maki they have at some places in Canada called a cowboy roll, which is green onion rolled in cooked beef.
Sushi and sashimi are both Japanese fish dishes. Sushi means slices of raw fish, mixed with, laid over or wrapped in or around special sushi rice (rice with vinegar). Sashimi is simply the raw fish, often sliced very thinly. Although the definitions seem simple, hundreds of variations exist in Japanese cuisine. Some classes of sushi commonly served in Japanese restaurants are: hosomaki, or thin sushi rolls futomak,i or thick sushi rolls maki-sushi, or sushi rolls wrapped in seaweed charkin-sushi, or sushi with thin slices of omelette Both sushi and sashimi are normally served with common side dishes, such as wasabi (horseradish), ginger, radish, rice vinegar, soy sauces or other sauces. Sushi doesn't only consists of rolls alone, there are different ways of preparing it. Some come with just fish on a bed of rice. I suggest you try a few different places before you write it off.
I *love* sushi...rolls, or fish on rice. In fact, my partner and I just agreed earlier tonight to go out for a sushi lunch on Monday, and we're looking forward to it! If you don't like avocado, then don't go for California roll. If you need to feel "safe", I recommend starting with cooked-fish options and building up. If you like shrimp, I definitely recommend shrimp tempura rolls. Some first good raw fish options are salmon and yellowtail.
You, sir, are evil... I just had the big O. by looking at those yummies... Oh, god... :icon_bigg Sashimi (tuna) addict here. And pretty much the rest of the Sushi, all of it. If I could, I'd only eat the stuff, no food on earth makes me enjoy the experience of eating so much. Avocado is a no-no, and wasabi tastes like :***: to me.
I hate avocados too. Depending on the place, they can make it workout avacados. If won'make it workout it,it is not worth going there.
I ... don't like sushi. I'm not big on seafood, when I do want it, I want it hot and crispy and not wrapped in seaweed.
It never ceases to amaze me how many people love Sushi, most of my friends can't get enough of the stuff.... Personally I would rather eat tree-bark than Sushi, probably just part of my universal disdain for all things seafood. I still remember when one of my Japanese friends gave me some of their homemade Sushi to try (one of their parents was a cook or something) and I felt terrible because the second I put it in my mouth I wanted to spit it right back out, ate it for the sake of politeness but certainly did not enjoy it.
I love sushi. Especially with wasabi. Wasabi is a miracle! I've never seen sushi with avocado. Hmm, it's so strange! How does it taste? Omg, have I never ate true sushi? My view of life is broken!
Nope, I've tried eating fish, and I hate (eating) fish, so sushi is for sure not something I like, also I've tried avocados , but can't seem to like them :/
