I'm going to admit it, I'm so happy I got away. Tumblr has probably been one of the most negative websites I've ever visited and I feel sorry for anyone who thinks otherwise. Tumblr is a website that celebrates mental illnesses, and even creates new ones! Have you heard of Otherkin? purely a Tumblr creation. If you don't know, otherkin are people who identify as things non human. There are penguin-kin, wolf-kin, tree-kin, and even things as insane as rain-kin, storm-kin, etc. I even took a post from an Otherkin's tumblr: I'm sorry, but really? I can not grasp this.. I can not grasp this sort of crazy. However the worst part is? Tumblr is filled with thousands of people who make these sort of people think it's OKAY to act and think like this. I find it appalling and truly, honestly believe that people like this should seek mental attention. NEXT! Celebration of Depression. Go on tumblr and type in the tag sad or depressed. You're first going to be stopped with a warning asking you If you're okay (just click the little "view posts" button which is more appealing to any depressed person than the buttons asking for help. You'll instantly be overcome with gifs of people slitting their wrists, the worlds darkest poems, and all those Skin's gifs of Effie Stonem talking about how horrible the world it. I mean c'mon! If I'm feeling sad and I get the idea to search the sad tag, I'm probably wanting things to CHEER ME UP! And take a look at some of their blogs too, if you like. I can guarantee you that a lot of them love flaunting each and every mental illness they have, I know I used to. I'm sorry for this rant, but my life has been so much better without tumblr and the shit that it put me through. Feel free to try and contradict/agree with me below, I am curious to see what you all think. *Also, look at this for more otherkin posts and https://www.tumblr.com/tagged/sad if you want to see some really sad stuff.
I can't wait to get on Tumblr. Also, don't worry about it. I made fun of the otherkin folks pretty hard.
What is tumblr ---------- Post added 11th Jun 2015 at 10:53 PM ---------- Lemme just add that I vomited with laughter.
In my experience it really depends on who you follow. I stay on tumblr because there is a lot of fandom content there, and that is how I spend a lot of my time. I peruse fanart of Johnlock, Korrasami, and Kataang.
I look a cute cat and pug pictures on there. I also follow some of the better transgender blogs. I'm not on there very often though. Really, it's one of those sites that it depends on how you use it. There are positive parts and negative parts. It's just like the internet as a whole.
I'll leave this here... If you would rather just read this 2010 article Spoiler SAN ANTONIO, Texas (CBS) - Texas police are investigating possible animal cruelty charges against Wolfie Blackheart, a 23-year-old self-proclaimed "werewolf," who happily admits she severed the head of a missing dog, boiled it and then posted a photo of the ghoulish results on the Internet. "I severed the head, boiled the head," Wolfie told the San Antonio Express News. "People make the mistake of hacking the spine, which will fracture the skull." She also told the paper, "You also have to put (the head) outside for the brains to leak out." Sounds horrifying, but is it a crime? That depends on whether the dog was alive when it was decapitated. Lisa Norwood, a spokesperson for Animal Care Services, says medical examiners should be able to determine if the dog was dead when its head was removed. It's provable "a number of different ways forensically," she said. San Antonio police got a warrant to search Blackheart's home that she shares with her mother, according to the San Antonio Express-News. They found the walls were plastered with posters and smeared with a red substance her mom says is ketchup. On a high shelf, the paper says police found Blackheart's collection of animal heads, including the cleaned skulls of a coyote, ram and wild boar. She also had a collection of large knives and swords. Taxidermy is apparently a hobby and passion. Police swabbed the walls and confiscated the heads, including the dog head. For her part, Blackheart, whose born name is Sarah Rodriguez, says the dog was already dead when a friend brought it to her and claims she would never hurt a living dog. "I would never kill a canine," she told the paper. "I am a canine." Nevertheless, her current (Warning Graphic Content) MySpace profile picture shows the dog's severed head on a rainbow background. The Internet has been swarming with anger at Blackheart, who says she's been flooded with prank calls and hate mail, but there is one person for whom the whole episode has hit hardest. Blackheart's neighbor, Kathy Silva, says she believes the dog is hers. "My heart pretty much sank," Silva told the San Antonio Express-News, "because when I saw that picture, I said, 'That's Rigsby.'" Rigsby, originally a stray adopted by the Silva family, has been missing since Jan. 5. "He was the sweetest dog ever," she said.
I use tumblr for looking at stuff for bands or TV shows that I like, but that's it. I try to stay far away from the ridiculous stuff on tumblr like that.
^What... what... what???? (@Kaiser) The answer to all of this is PEOPLE. People are strange and stupid and very very freaky. But then again, I suppose I'm one of them so what can I say? I hate Tumblr, and social media in general, personally. They never mistreated me or anything. It's just that I find it to be a waste of time and chock full of either false or useless information. And I'm also a misanthropic hermit, so that would explain some things.
Huh, I mainly just follow funny things, such as "Kim Jong Un Looking at Things" This site always give me some laughs. There also used to be "Kim Jong Il looks at things" Both very clever. So it's a mixed bag, like the net itself.
Yeah, I tried getting into Tumblr twice now... Didn't really get interested into it. I usually followed furry/photography type stuff though. But one of my brothers tends to stroll around the evil insane parts of tumblr for some reason. >_<........ So I've heard quite a few things going on about it. Let's just say; I really dislike Tumblr at times, but I tried getting into it out of curiosity.
Oh god no please not another otherkin discussion. Also I think tumblr has good parts, but then there's the parts that are romanticization of mental illness and just generally frustrating ideas which show up on all social media. On the other hand, you have cool people and I think the science side of tumblr is especially great. That being said, I don't actually use it. It seems like too much scrolling to be worth it.
Holy fucking shit that's disgusting. I am somewhat ashamed to admit this.. but I used tumblr as a porn outlet. I have like heaps of gifs of Lesbian Porn all over mine. On the other hand I am proud of my creation  ♥
The whole site is way too confusing and feels like it was lazily slapped together to be every other social media site. It offers nothing unique or original unless you count being more confusing and taking away the ability to actually communicate with other human beings as original.
Tumblr has a lot of problems. A lot, whether people are aware of them are not. There's a lot of issues with white supremacy (both in terms of the systems of oppression and the literal neo-nazism), blatant bullying and harassment to all genders (especially this #KillAllMen thing that seems to be going around), trivializing of rape victims and deaths of trans people, and so on and so forth. Tumblr is great in some ways, but when things are vicious and ugly; it gets dirty fast.
I dunno Tumblr is definitely one of those things where it depends on who you follow. I hate it when people are like oh Tumblr is crazy bc like it's not a hive mind you know. Individual people on there are insane and horrible and that's who you need to stay away from. That being said tumblr can totally be a cesspool of negativity, there's been issues before with pro-ana blogs and thinspo that promoted unhealthy lifestyles. It's not all bad though. Now I mostly follow photography blogs, things about tv shows I like, and conspiracy theorists lol. Also studyblrs which I love, they're just like study inspiration. It realllly depends on who ya follow.
