Wild ARMs 4 You go through the game with your party of four, save the world, and then the Epilogue just drops some heart-shattering news, about one of those four. It really didn't help that, the character it pertained to, also happened to be my favorite. Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars In recent plays, I don't cry. However, when I was much younger, it made me cry at the end, when after you defeat the main boss, everybody regroups and Geno, my favorite character in the game, says his goodbyes. We're then treated to a nice little montage wrap up, of all the major characters you've encountered, throughout the game, with some touching music. Final Fantasy X Some say the ending was sad, with Tidus and all. I suppose it was, but I wasn't too sold on Tidus. No, what had me shedding a tear was Auron -- and his story. All throughout the game, Auron is this stoic protector, and then in the final few hours of the game, you start to learn some unsettling news. Finally, it all clicks together and, by then, it's too late. Final Fantasy III/VI This whole game is just depressing, for starters. Every person in the party has either lost somebody close to them, is suffering, or has a load of problems. But that is part of the charm, because together, they form this uniquely effective team. However, the lowest point in the game is, shortly after Kefka (that fucking bastard) destroys the world, and the party is scattered... suicide seems like a viable option, because there is nothing left to fight for. The music, the dialogue, just everything. Eventually, everybody reunites and the world is saved, but still, up until that finale, it's a sad experience. I'm sure I'm missing some, but these immediately come to mind.
Final Fantasy X was a tear jerker and probably tied with 9 for my favorite in the series. Mass Effect 3. The ending was such a massive downer. It's like a massive kick in the teeth that everything was in vain. Even the best ending was depressing. Fall Out 3 - PRIOR to the BrokenSteel DLC that was a pretty depressing ending.
Bioshock Infinite - oh god did i cry at this game. This War of Mine - this game is just so depressing overall. it's a survival game that shows the emotional, physical, and psychological effects of war. it's a group of civilians trying to survive during war and there are no "good" or "bad" decisions.
SPOILERS for Mother 3 and Final Fantasy 9 Both of which I think I listed as having my favorite music in a video game. For Mother 3 it was that ending, how the final battle goes down with the two brothers battling it out to see who revives the dragon, Lucas holding back because he doesn't want to hurt his brother and Claus relentlessly pushing on to kill Lucas because he has no choice. God that game ended in a dark place. Final Fantasy 9 broke my heart with the ending cutscenes that show the various party members going on with their lives, but Vivi isn't shown. Instead, the narration's from his perspective, talking about how he's run out of time. The quote that gets me every time: "What to do when I felt lonely ... that was the only thing you couldn't tell me."
Mass Effect series made me cry. The second one is a real tearjerker if you don't complete the suicide mission 100% correctly (which I didn't since I didn't know what I was doing) and the third one is a downer no matter what choice you make :/
Crash Bandicoot probably did out of anger when I was a child. The annoying eejit would never do what I pressed on the controller. It used to infuriate me. (Yeah, I'm crap at games).
Too many. Mass Effect Trilogy several times over, especially the last instalment. The Last of Us The Walking Dead AC: Revelations Portal 2 Spec Ops: The Line Any game from my childhood from pure nostalgia I'm a giant teen sized baby. I get waaaay too emotionally invested in these fictional characters.
The final scenes in The Lengend of Zelda, Majora's mask made me real sad but i didn't cry. Thats the closest game that made me cry. I tend to cry more at movies anyway, or books.
Last of Us obviously along with the endings of MGS3 and 4. Also, Bioshock: Infinite did it twice. Once at the end of the main campaign and once at the end of Burial at Sea Episode 2. Just... Both Booker and Elizabeth deserved better than what they ultimately got. Especially Elizabeth. I'm also going to go a bit hipster and say "The Darkness" when a certain character dies after chapter one. That had me in tears.
Oh a lot. Final Fantasy VII in the Forgotten City (not gonna spoil it for those who don't know), Final Fantasy X ending. Xenosaga II and Xenosaga III. Ace Combat 5 when Chopper is shot down. Ace Combat Zero when PJ is shot down. Bulletstorm (when I heard they weren't making a sequel lol). Modern Warfare 3 when Soap dies. .hack//G.U. Vol. 2 when Alkaid becomes a lost one. All of Rule of Rose which has some lesbian themes in it... I was kinda shocked but I love it. Hard game though. Persona 4 if you got the sad ending. Resident Evil: Code Veronica X when Steve dies? Seven Samurai 20XX with Natoe and Jodie. Way of the Samurai 2 and 3 in certain endings. I cry a lot. Don't judge me...
