According to an article on the BBC’s website, American’s can’t even pronounce Worcestershire, let alone spell it!! For non-Brits, how would you pronounce it? Here is a link to the article if you are interested. The reference is right at the end. The awkward jigsaw of England's boundaries - BBC News
Nope ---------- Post added 17th Mar 2015 at 04:49 PM ---------- The same may be true for Leicestershire or Gloucestershire
I personally pronounce it Woosh-tuh-sheer... I've seen others pronounce it like Wer-ses-ter-sher though. .-.
My whole life was a LIE!!! Hahaha! Teach us then! I want to sound intelligent whenever I will buy this:
Phonetically: /ˈwɐs.tə.ʃə/ Meaning: WUSS ta sha (with u in pun and a in comma/about) But yeah, the English orthography is pretty bizarre so it's not surprising that some words are pronounced very counterintuitively.
I have managed to perfectly spell it ever since I was younger, lol. I thought I pronounced it correctly, lol : Pronunciations for worcestershire It's kinda similar to this one except I say "sheer"
If you like P G Wodehouse, you'll know the stories of Jeeves and Wooster. Worcester is pronounced in very much the same way as Wooster.
If you think pronouncing "Worcestershire" (Wooster sheer) is hard enough, try pronouncing some places in Wales. DD is pronounced as an 'F', double 'L' makes them sound like they're coughing up a fur-ball.
I still haven't got the hang of that. Like, how the fuck do you pronounce Merthyr Tydfil? I'll be damned if I know.
I swear I was actually in Merthyr Tydfil two weeks ago! We had a curry there. It's actually spelt roughly as you see it: Merther-Tid-Vil.
Haha so true with the fur-ball comment. Iv just sat here trying to pronounce caernarfonshire and every time I sounded like I was about to cough up.
Haha at first I thought you were joking but theres actually a town called that. I will leave that for someone who is actually Welsh haha.
St Mary's church in the hollow of the white hazel near to the fierce whirlpool and the church of St Tysilio of the red cave. Just googled it. Daft name if you ask me.
