I consider myself a "foodie" and love Chinese (Americanized) food but have yet to try Sushi. I guess one of the main reasons is because I HATE avocado and it seems almost every roll has it. Anyone have any recommendations where to start? Preferably rolls without avocado haha
I'm probably not going to be much help because I love avocado and my favorite type of sushi is that kind that is almost mostly avocado, like the vegetarian kind with avocado and cucumber. Are you interested in nigiri? They're simpler rolls with rice, fish, and sometimes seaweed. You could start there.
I prefer Sashimi. I don't care for all the rice with Sushi, but as most people don't really know the difference, I usually just say Sushi. White Tuna is my favorite!
I didn't like sushi the one time I had it. It was cold and I coudn't get over the gross psychological hangup that it was not cooked.
Thank California for the avocado in sushi . I like both sushi and sashimi, but rarely eat it. Personal tip: worst place to eat sushi is at an all-you-can eat Chinese buffet.
I love sushi and all other types of it. Although, I have never seen avocado on any of the sushi I have ever eaten!! I love avocado, it would just make it that much more awesome for me. The sushi I have found in restaurants where I go, have fish, seaweed, and maybe some fresh bamboo in them. Some of the Americanized sushi have cream cheese, crab, carrots, and leeks or bamboo shoots in them. I've never seen avocado in them. Are you SURE it's avocado? It might be something else that looks like avocado. Unless you are ordering fresh made sushi, I doubt it has avocado in it, because avocado would turn brown pretty quickly if not eaten quickly.
Yeah pretty much very roll around here lists avocado as an ingredient. One place I went had crab and cream cheese rolls and said they couldn't make it without the avacado for some reason. I was always under the impression sashimi is all raw where as sushi could be raw or cooked.
Awwww yesssss. As much as I love sushi, I am obsessed with sashimi. There's a place I visit around here that makes really yummy sashimi. I like salmon, spicy tuna, and white tuna the most. With a dip of soy sauce and a piece of ginger, sashimi is heaven in a bite. The fish is slightly rich and fatty, and the saltiness from soy sauce and pink ginger balances everything. It's just great stuff
Yes. I like real Japanese sushi. It's funny you say almost every makizushi has avocado, when I believe it is mostly the American "California Rolls" that have it.
I love sushi but I dislike sashimi. I tend to make my own sushi at home with just cucumber and carrot in the middle. Btw Sushi is Japanese.
Ahhhhh....it's like I just CANT ESCAPE sushi this week. My group of friends were obsessing over it all week.... I meet a seperate friend yesterday and SHE mentions sushi. I meet yet another friend today and SHE mentions having a sushi craving... Am I missing something?!? To answer your actual question YES...everybody I know LOVESSS sushi. I myself have never actually tried it. Don't ever plan on it; I have such a grand dislike for sea food and sushi is just too deeply connected... even the vegetarian ones are too close to "fish juices" for my comfort
(Americanized) Japanese food and Chinese food is great. I could eat it any time. I love orange chicken and sushi.
I've been on a kanpachi kick lately, but toro remains my favorite. Seriously though, if you like hamachi and you see kanpachi on the menu, give it a try. It's like a leaner, more flavorful version.
