Ok, how do I explain this? When I sit, I frequently cross my legs thigh over thigh or some call it a scissor cross or cross my legs like a girl. I've always preferred to sit like this since I was a young boy and was told when I was around 8 that only girls sit like that and boys cross their legs with ankle on knee. However, I never paid it much attention and continue to cross my legs thigh over thigh. When I came out to my dad last year, he said he always knew I was gay because of the way I crossed my legs. So when you see a young guy sitting with his legs crossed thigh over thigh like a girl does it mean he is gay? Is that a good sign to pick up on?
Again stereotypes I think. It might be more prevalent in gay men, however that's stereotyping again I think. I've seen "straight" guys do it too. That's like the "look at your fingernails" test. Do you spread your fingernails out or turn your palm over and curl your fingers in to look?
Cute... I'm the same! Something just feels right about it. Im not gay tho. I am transgender. so that would explain... but i i think that would be the right assumption. If a guy sits cross legged, it would mean something. My opinion.
I cross my legs the same way! xD Sometimes I'll make the effort to sit more properly male, but not really. I like being comfortable myself. No, I don't think crossing your legs is proof that someone is gay. I'm pretty sure a straight guy could also sit that way.
I'm not really sure what does scissor cross mean, but I do cross my legs too and lot of my male straight friends do, so I don't think it makes a man look gay.
I do it when I'm sitting with my laptop on my knee! I've noticed a lot of guys doing it. Gay or straight. I don't think it really matters; if you feel comfortable sitting like that, then do it!
For me, it does raise the question if they might be gay if I see a guy sitting that way. I do it myself too, and I just think it's kind of feminine, but I suppose it depends on the person. I know one guy, who says he's straight but has had a boyfriend, and he crosses his legs pretty often - but only when he's with people he's comfortable with. With him, though, it doesn't look gay at all. But since it's nothing but a stereotype, let's just say - they could very well be gay, but it's no guarantee. It never is.
I think it is a stereotype, but there might be some truth to it. I know I used to get accused of being gay when I would sit with my legs crossed and twirl my hair.
I've heard that stereotype, same with putting your hands together when you sit I believe. I did both of those as a child and was told not to by both teachers and peers...why are there so many rules on sitting! : 3 I was always most comfortable this way, but during high school I tried to correct it...worked for awhile.. When I came out to myself about my sexuality then gender I went back to sitting how I felt most comfortable! ^-^ It made me feel like myself and powerful!
Its most certainly stereotyped. I have seen straight tall/lean men cross their legs. But it may be prevalent among gay men. I like to cross my legs! makes me feel like i have long legs
It makes you look feminine in certain cultures, that is pretty much it. Sexuality has nothing to do with it in itself, but gay guys tend to be more open about their feminine side than your average straight guy who "want to be a macho man for the ladies" and whatever I guess from what I can see. Also I wish I could sit like that, lucky you
Crossing at the knees is definitely acceptable for adults and common in executive portraits, yet people get called on it before age 25 or so here in the U.S. I've crossed my legs both the "macho way" and at the knee interchangeably since about 28, depending on what was comfortable, and don't care what people think or say. If an adult had a problem with it, I would think they were the one with a MAJOR problem.
