    Its Irish... and very Irish-sounding. I like it. Its unique and haven't met anyone outside my family who has my name yet. :lol:

    Goes back to Merry Olde England. And is supposed to mean something like "of humble origin". So no blue blood in these veins. :lol: :frowning2: :wink:

    I believe we've traced it back to Scottish/Welsh. We think our first ancestors with our last name may have been Catholics shipped here on a boat (they didn't want Catholics here much either).

    It is one of those vaguely "John-derived" names, it is also more common as a first name than a surname. Celtic origins. It was my paternal grandmother's maiden name.....(fortunately when my paternal grandfather knocked her up he did the decent thing and abandoned her....I would not have enjoyed going through school with that surname! )

    Edit: Woah, just forgot I haven't changed my last name to my moms yet, my current last name is Jewish and nobody knows how to pronounce it.
