Ok so as I mentioned a while back we are starting a GSA at my school. I have a few ideas for discussion topics but a running short. Please post any ideas you have don't worry if they seem obvious and you think I might already have them post them anyway! Thanks heaps and heaps and heaps in advance (!)
Hey there! In terms of discussion topics you could perhaps talk about: 1) What are the issues/problems facing GLBT students at your school? How can the GSA get involved to address these issues/problems 2) Point one ties in then with the role of the GSA in your school (advocacy, a safe space for GLBT students, providing support). Essentially, what do you want it to be about? 3) Social events for GLBT students and supporters - what kind of social events: regular get togethers for movies, coffee houses, etc...Connecting social events with educational events or information sessions? 4) Information drives at your school on issues facing GLBT students, awareness campaigns 5) Educational events - such as readings, guest lectures 6) Special projects where the wider community could be involved
Perhaps you could have debates with the members of the group? Start with simple topics such as "Why do you think homophobia arises?" "What's the appropriate way to respond to a gay basher?" Just ideas. Much luck with your group! Tell us how you get along.
