Since no one has brought them up so far, I'd like to add Jónsi and Otep. Jónsi is best known for his incredible work with the Icelandic band Sigur Rós, but his most recent solo work, I would argue, is just as good, if not better, than anything he's done with Sigur Rós. His music always puts me in a good mood! His video for the song "Go Do" is particularly fantastic (you might have heard part of it in a recent Ford commercial). Jónsi's Go Do: http://vimeo.com/9289064 (Sorry, couldn't figure out how to embed the video.) No list of LGBT artists would be complete without L.A.-based metal goddess and poet Otep. She's one of my favorite female growlers, although, to be fair, there aren't very many to choose from. She is a bit of an acquired taste, but still really awesome. Otep's Rise, Rebel, Resist: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2x3y7fwmaFQ (Sadly, embedding was disabled for this video.) The word "faggots" is censored in the video, but it's not too hard to figure out where it goes.
FUCKYES!!! Nobody (except Joey) Has any idea how happy it makes me that Janelle is the second post! I wouldn't have thought of her as Gay/Bi, but definitely has a positive message and supports those who are different. It does make me a little sad that nobody has mentioned Missy Higgins, however. She's bisexual, beautiful, and Aussie. Plus she posted a blog with a video on Prop 8 which features Regina Spektor's Fidelity. http://www.myspace.com/missyhiggins/blog/473947300 Her most well known song Where I Stood. Another great one is Sugarcane. Ooh and Dancing Dirt Into The Snow.
UNNNGHH YES. JANELLE MONAE AND AMANDA FUCKING PALMER. Two of my absolute faves. <3 I've seen them both in concert and they are both approximately 8000% more amazing live. LOVE LOVE LOVE THEM. And there's Brian Viglione, who is the other half of the Dresden Dolls. He's straight, but he's a crossdresser so I'm counting him. And he's about ten kinds of amazing at the drums, and twenty kinds of amazing at performance. Saw the Dresden Dolls live and I was torn whether to spend most of my time looking at Amanda or Brian, they both had such stage presence. Also, Tegan and Sara pretty much go without saying, don't they? Yes. SPEAKING OF. Holly Miranda! When I saw T&S live, this excellent lady opened for them and she is fan-freaking-tastic. I'm actually disappointed that her studio recordings don't capture half of the power in her voice. And apparently she is gay, which is like icing on a cake made of awesome. She sounds good singing while walking up stairs and playing guitar! YES. Love herrrr. <3
I didn't know she was bisexual. I like her style and I've been meaning to get more into her music. ---------- Post added 19th Mar 2011 at 10:55 PM ---------- (I apologize for the double post, but I missed my chance to edit and add this on) I forgot about The Veronicas <3 Take Me On The Floor has the lyric "I wanna kiss a boy, I wanna kiss a girl," and there has been speculation that Jess is a lesbian to which she has replied that she values her privacy and that she's extremely offended that some people think she would be seen with a girl for publicity reasons (a la Tatu). Kele Okereke, the lead singer of Bloc Party and is gay or bi and of course Bowie who is bi as he met his wife because they both dated the same man xD Tracy Chapman- SHE IS SO AWESOME and LADY GAGA!!!!
Because I'm too lazy to go picture hunting... -Lady Gaga -Glambert -Rebecca Drysdale -Amanda Palmer -Frank Iero -Otep Shamaya
AHH! How did I forget Sia?! I love Sia. She's delightful. <3 Gah. I like some of Tatu's songs, I really do. But the fact that their "lesbianism" was just cooked up as a marketing strategy bugs the hell out of me.
RuPaul! She is amazing! yes she is a drag queen, but the best there is honey!
I think they're bi actually and were together in the early days of t.A.T.u. but their manager at the time played it up a lot and used it as a marketing strategy and I think that had a part in why they fired him later.
