I don't have any experience with parental control software, but that's a silly feature to be able to block certain gTLDs. It's kinda pointless to block all .gov or .org and certainly all .com sites. Don't they block specific sites?

Bring on .SCOT or .SCO.

Yep sad really. :frowning2: ISP's don't do it but it its possible.

    Schools could easily do this.
My school blocks pretty much every site it can, including sites that might contain games. And things like online physics experiments for some reason are classified as games...

So this could easily do more harm than good.

This is nothing more than a solution without a problem.

No in our school. We signed up stating that we would use the computers for sensible reasons.

I like that .gay.com idea. Thats seems nicer looking to me anyways :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: Im a fan of everything being .com, with .edu.com and .org.com to be more specific. It looks "neat".

But still, i think people are freaking out over nothing. Having a .gay option for websites is not going to create the end of the world. Its an option. And parents or schools dont need websites to end in .gay to block them. You can block any site than uses the three letters "g", "a" and "y" in a row. My home computer had that block on it when i was in grade 7. Its easy enough to block shit, this is not going to change that.

.gay.com doesn't make sense though, because generally extensions of the .com domain come AFTER. For example, .com.au, .com.tw and so on so forth.

.gay does not represent the community. The community is more defined by being the "other" - including gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transgendered, asexuals, questioning, two-spirited, … along with our allies. Such a diversity is not well represented in this proposal and hinders the advancement and discussion of issues facing these groups.

This proposal is worse than a solution without a problem, it could cause problems of alienation.

Yes about hooking up, but not exclusively. There are also safety issues, especially with travel outside of the western world. A gay cruise will not stop in Yemen. Cartoon examples aside, there are issues of dignity and proper customer service that a gay cruise could reasonably be expected to provide, while there is no guarantee a ordinary cruise would.

    YES!

It's a silly, capitalistic marketing ploy to the gay community that makes me throw up a little in my mouth. Group solidarity is nice, but the second people start zoning in on this feeling to create a profit, I do not support them. Targeting us for their advertisements and setting up new stereotypes to conform to.

Really, it wouldn't be earth shattering, but I would prefer that the queer community stay away from this sort of thing.

Yeah why not a .black while we're at it! We know we sure don't want them using the same websites as us. (sarcasm)

    SERIOUSLY?!!

This pisses me off. Gay people are just people. If they need their own section, then just make it gay.whatever.com . For example if Ford was trying to advertise to gays, it would be gay.ford.com . But that's ridiculous.

The reason I recommended a .gay.com idea was that individual websites could choose to append their own page files with a .gay if they wanted. It isn't something that would need to be created for them by the folks that constantly update and improve HTML and XTML code (not that this would require much in the way of that). In the same vein, I could make a site called "www.queer.atheist.com" if I wanted to make a site catering to gay atheists (gaytheists, lol). The actual site would be "queer.atheist" with the "www." and the ".com" being the actual web tags. Putting the ".atheist" or ".gay" after the ".com" would require it to be a valid coded suffix I would think...

Well to add a .gay before the .com would mean you'd have to own the .gay.com domain name, and last time I checked it was used. >_>

    stupid people, stupid idea...

    means it could prob happen...

Keep in mind fluffykittyimagesite sill cost you $400,000 or about €270,680

I can understand the position for it but fact that LGBT opponents are not saying much is just not sitting well with me. The .gay is all in good intentions im not mad but skeptical and worried it might do more harm than good. A lot of good can come out of it as well as a lot of bad. I just dont want the bad part.

Why not have it? It's not like websites will be forced to use it.

No, why do we need to have a .gay domain it just really irks me that there are people that dont even want us to use the .com domain because of their fears. I think it is all because they are afraid they might go to a web address and find a rainbow or (gasp) two boys kissing!
