Cute or adorable? I need to prove a friend wrong.

I've never really thought of either as patronizing...but adorable sounds more like what you'd say to a pet or child, so I guess I can see how someone might consider it patronizing.

In full, the word adorable. But when you're 16 years old and still being called "cute" by your friends who use it to treat you like an 8 year old ... very patronizing.

I suppose "adorable" would be more patronizing, since it is commonly associated with young children and animals, but I'll take either one. I love being called "cute" and I welcome it from anyone

Adorable. I would consider it a compliment to be called cute, to be called adorable is too much.

Neither if it is sincere. It all depends on the circumstances and delivery.

I feel like cute is a universal term that could be applied to anything but adorable is usually what you'd call a child or a small animal.

I don't tend to find either patronizing unless you're purposely trying. But, if you are trying to be patronizing then adorable is more so.

Neither are patronising. Both can be used to be equally patronising though if used as a means to patronise.

Yeah, I don't think either necessarily does. Either of course could be delivered in a patronizing manner.

Obviously they're both fine unless somebody is being a jerk. I think 'adorable' has more potential to be patronizing, at least where I live. I feel more comfortable calling people 'cute' than 'adorable'! Plus I associate 'adorable' with helpless young animals. 'Cute' reminds me of misleading things such as Shrike birds or homicidal anime characters lol

It truly depends. I love to be called both. The only time I don't like to be called cute is when someone says it sarcastically; like, "Oh, you're cute..." *dry tone* I guess adorable would be more patronizing to someone who doesn't want to seem adorable in any way.

    Neither...

If anyone wants to call me cute or adorable, go for it! I rarely get called either so it would be nice!

Adorable because 'cute' can be like "Damn he's/she's cute," but when you use adorable it's more like "OMG you're so ADORABLE!!! ^w^"

:/ Well, I'm almost always pissed if someone calls me cute... adorable doesn't bother me as much, maybe because it's less common and I wasn't socialized in a way that made me flat-out hate the word "adorable".
