What's happening to France and Europe?

    Not surprising, since there tends to be a backlash whenever one minority group gains rights. I think combining the economy, immigration, and increased acceptance for LGBT are a perfect recipe for conservative groups to play into fears of the "old ways" being eroded. Believe it or not, Germany was one of the hubs for gay life, prior to WWII.

    It's just a bit ironic, since I often hear people here joking about the French being "gay", feminine, weak. Maybe that's another factor? Anyway, I think it's important to be mindful of the past, and remember that even progressive times can quickly reverse.

    Those numbers are still a lot higher than in many parts of the world, too.

    I thought overall England is getting more glbt friendly. I seem to be more accepted
