The problem with the (commercial) holiday season is that Christmas is the biggest cash cow and there's an arms race, a race to the bottom, to be the first to tap into the lucrative market. If stores wait to put Christmas stuff by November, the stores that do put things out early might get the early sales and a bigger overall slice of American families' Christmas budgets. No one wants to be left out. That's why Black Friday has slowly gone from 6AM on Friday morning to 6PM Thanksgiving Day. That said, so long as people are willing to buy Christmas stuff that early, stores will gladly sell it to them.

Him: cake pops taste good but, it's not exactly the best thing to order when your on a date with a girl.
Me: does it really matter what I eat on a date?

Me:I can just share the cake pop with the girl. Does it look off then? (I was trying to make it awkward at this point.)
Him:When are you going to start fucking with girls? We can find you a hillbilly girlfriend.
Me: I don't want to spend...my money on a girl (I was feeling very cornered at that moment)

My nephew was in the car also so he then directed his attention to him asking him why he doesn't fuck with girls either.

It's not as easy as it sounds. If I attack him about it he will know I'm gay. Also, he's 44. I'm 18. He's a homophobic slob who can't take care of himself. But, I keep my mouth shut so I can come out on top eventually.

Also, I don't think you would be outing yourself by telling him off. From your perspective the insult may have hit a bit too close to home, but from anyone's point of view that's still a pretty nasty insult. I don't think anyone would instantly jump to the conclusion that you are gay if you push back against that slur, because most people, gay or not, would have done the same.
