    I find men's attire codes to be a little confusion. Save for specific terms like "black tie," I am always confused when people say "dress 'smart' or 'business casual.'" I never want to be overdressed or underdressed (still, it's better to be overdressed). Not sure if women have it easier; slap on the proverbial "little black dress" and it should be fine for most occasions.

    Speaking of dress codes, we need to bring white tie back in vogue :lol:.

    I was just thinking. Homophobic men are in some ways scared, not of homosexuality itself but of what it implies: another man who they assume is equally horny and sexually aggressive as they are to women, except they are no the prey and not the predators.

    I think the sexual pursuit also why they fear gay men who are actually muscular and athletic, someone who could be physical equals unlike those "effeminate = inferior" gays. They try to box gays into the latter category so that they can remove the potential power of homosexuality, just like they do with straight women (I will never understand straight women who fall for misogynists). It's easier to think women just worship men and want to serve their every whim rather than the idea that women can be just as choosy and heartless as men ("women are crazy" excuse).

    But, when you see athletes coming out, then they start having cognitive dissonance. So, in some ways, it's more important for those tough closet cases to come out because they are staking new claims in the frontiers of what it means to be out and proud.

    I never understood the fears some of them have of gay men suddenly deciding to rape every straight guy they see. First, it would be more dangerous for the offender. Second, not every straight person is a perfect ten, or even desirable for every single gay person. Third, men aren't exactly sexualized the same way women are, so unless you knowingly walk into a gay club, full of horny and drunk men, it probably won't happen on the bus, for example. Men don't feel entitled to other men's bodies the same way, and if anything, they're encouraged to respect space and boundaries.

    And yes, that is something else that's threatened when a masculine gay man comes out, since many people associate them with women, children, or "un-men". Women who come out as lesbian don't risk losing their sense of womanhood the same way, since a) they're not in a position of privilege or power, and b) since their sexuality isn't taken serious, anyway.
