None of the songs I listen to in order to deal with depression are really "happy", exactly, but more a way to just kind of understand and process my emotions at the time, get a bit of catharsis, or similar. So listener beware if you're looking for happy songs. These are the songs I'll sift through my shuffle for when I'm feeling like crap, but I'll listen to pretty much any of my music if it means distracting myself.

When I'm depressed thinking about relationship stuff, I'll go for Pain of Salvation's Second Love, along with Porcupine Tree's Collapse the Light Into Earth, Love You to Death by Kamelot, Mutiny Within's Never, Dream Theater's Beneath the Surface, Speaking to Stones's Nothing, and Tears by Rush.

For angry/frustrated/stressed-out depression, I like anything heavy and loud. But lyrically, I'll go for songs like The Anarchist by Rush; Opeth's Serenity Painted Death or The Moor; PoS's Used, Idioglossia, Diffidentia, Scarsick; Seven by Symphony X; Ayreon's Day Three: Pain; Veritas by Kamelot.

And for general sadness depression, I've got Kamelot's Abandoned; Dream Theater's Far From Heaven and Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence; Epica's Delirium and Serenade of Self Destruction; Imminent Sonic Destruction's Driving Home; Iter Impius, Oblivion Ocean, New Year's Eve, Undertow by Pain of Salvation; and Rush's 2112 or Freewill.

    ... I like music.

So um.. Yea. Hi. It beefs 4-6 months since this post but I'm happy with all the support and the songs. But I'm not depressed anymore after what happened at my school. But I'm still in the closet of course. And I'm kinda liking being gay (STILL getting used to say and even typing that). And I finally found someone who is gay, that I can talk to.

Nine Inch Nails. It's helped me through the worst times of my life. It's not for everyone, but it helps me alot. try listening to the album The Fragile. Its really long, but it has some fantastic stuff on it. Hope ur feeling better soon (*hug*) i know its rough, but things will get better

Listening to 'happy' music when I'm down just makes it worse for me, I like to listen to Joy Division, The Smiths and Galaxie 500 when I'm depressed or feeling sorry for myself.

Glad to hear things are getting better for you though

  12. Bridge over troubled water by Simon and Garfunkel. I know it's dated but then it's a real powerful song, I'm not lying.

Oh, I'll Be Alright is my ANTHEM and definitely fits.

You can tell it's an LGBT forum by the sort of songs that are being suggested, oops!

I listen to Linkin park when I feel depressed. Personally, I find it helps to have my feelings out in music, so will listen to depressing music.

    My December - Linkin park
    Valentines day - Linkin park
Hardly breathe - hybrid theory/Linkin park
    Asleep - the smiths
    Interlude - the smiths

Bring It All Back - S Club 7. This song just makes me livelier everytime I hear this.
