    I'm assuming its Alcoholics Anonymous.

Assuming that you mean Alcoholics Anonymous, unless you don't mind them pushing religion upon you, I would suggest simply getting treatment from an addictions specialist. You can ask your doctor for information about that.

AA doesn't push any particular religion. They specifically reference "God or a higher power, whatever you interpret him to be"... there are a lot of people who have successfully used AA who don't have any religious beliefs.

And if you are in a place like the US, addiction treatment is expensive and not everyone has access to health insurance to pay for it.

They really aren't. There are Buddhists, athiests, agnostics, Christians, Wiccans and people with every other flavor of religious belief to be found in AA, and AA itself is extremely nonjudgemental about what any individual's beliefs are. If you haven't found that to be the case, you're at the wrong AA

Nic Sheff, in his marvelous book "Tweak" talks about his own athiesm and reconciling that with AA, and how he finds his "Higher Power" within himself... and neither the AA meetings he attended, nor his sponsor ever questioned how he reconciled his beliefs with his recovery.

There is no need to assume a higher power at all in order to overcome addictions such as alcoholism.

Not adding fuel to a religious debate, mind you, but I have to agree that any form of a higher power isn't needed to overcome addiction =/ Not saying that you shouldn't do so - for some it works wonders. But for others, it doesn't do anything. To each their own. :]

Are you on friendly terms with your family? Do you have many close friends? Tell all of the ones whom you trust the most about your problem and ask them for support. You need a support system more than anything to overcome addiction. Where do you live? The people who live with you would be good at watching and helping you regulate (or stop, which would be better) your alcohol intake. You need to admit the problem to the people in your life and have them help in whatever ways they can, essentially. It'll be a bitch of a slow process, but never lose sight of the goal.

    Hi Stewie,

Given the nature of EC and considering the age range, it would be rather difficult to have an AA type support forum/chat integrated into EC.

That said, if you would like to get some feedback or help, you are more than welcome to create support threads in the Support and Advice section. If you want to talk more privately, you are also more than welcome to PM any of the advisors.

    Hope this helps a bit.
