Whenever I feel really depressed there's always someone I can turn to, and that artist is Morrissey. The man understands me better than anyone else in the world does. I discovered him when I was fifteen and he saved my life. Literally saved it, I don't know where I'd be without him, many a time from being a teenager to the present his music has dragged me back from the edge of despair. Probably the song that most succinctly sums up my experience as a transgendered person is "I'm Still Here" by the Goo Goo Dolls. I was constantly pushed into the gender role of my biological sex growing up because I live in such a socially/religiously conservative area, and it was a daily battle to express myself as an individual. I caught a lot of hell for cross-dressing, cutting my hair, refusing to wear a purse, and for being aloof and socially distant throughout middle and high school. At the time, I felt it better to reject other people entirely, rather than deal with potential rejection, since I felt that no one would accept me for who I really was.

So I just never let anyone know who I really was. I had acquaintances who constantly confided in me, but I never allowed myself to become close to anyone. I held the world at arm's length.

It wasn't until I met my best friend in college - the first person who ever really accepted me, and the first person I came out to - that I allowed myself to feel real actual emotions towards another person.

This song has pretty much been my personal anthem since the first time I heard it, but I didn't understand why it had such strong significance to me untill I accepted myself.

'Werewolves' by Short Stack
To me, it seems to draw a parallel between being a werewolf (in most fiction, is a case you are born with or given to by another werewolf against your will) and homosexuality (despite the fact that we can't turn other people gay like werewolves) and how we are apparently going to hell because of it.
It also mentions how they are loving people, giving and receiving love yet are still going to hell just because of that one part of them.

^ Funny, as a transgendered person I always related to werewolves in fiction and movies. Especially empathized with the whole "dual nature" aspect of lycanthropy...and the fact that the vanilla human exterior of a werewolf hides a primal nature to be hidden or fought against, rather than embraced.
