So a few days ago, I decided to take a pair of scissors and my razor to my bush, and... things kinda hurt now.
That entire area is now sensitive to water and it feels like I have a burn.
It's red and it hurts, and I'm wondering what I could have done wrong.

That skin is extremely sensitive. If this is your first time going to be an awful experience. You can try and put lotion in the area to keep the skin moisturized. Have many ingrown hairs that are just beneath the surface of the skin and now is trying to emerge again but is getting stuck in the follicle pores.

Keep it clean, scrub the area with soap and moisturize. It will calm down.

Shaving yourself is what you did wrong.
I trim but never had the desire to shave my pubes off once they came in.
(OK, they REALLY freaked me out when they first started showing up at puberty)
As I've gotten older that whole "Smooth and Clean as a babies freshly washed ass" look has gotten to be just that, pre-pubescent and kind of creepy.

If my guy can't tolerate me having a bit of hair down there I let him know the door will self lock after he passes the threshold.

I do not like body hair, and I'd have it laser removed if I could.
I won't take your advice and am only for people who can show me maybe a safer method.

Trim it short and then use a hair removal cream instead of shaving. The area still might get irritated but it shouldn’t be as bad. Also it gets easier, the first time is the worst.
    Hope that helps.

hm, there's some hair removal cream at my local Walgreens.
And yeah, hopefully it'll be less irritated as time goes on. This is the first time I've done this and honestly, I'll looking for a full-body laser hair removal sometime down the line.
    Thank you~

Good sharp blades and take your time. But yes the first couple of times will not be pleasant.

That’s normal. Keep yourself moisturized and be careful if you use hair removal cream, a lot of them are pretty harsh chemicals that aren’t meant to be used *ahem* down there.

Do not use hair removal cream on your genitals. Specially since it sounds you already have sensitivity issues for your skin.

The same advice that you use to shave your face is used for your pubic hair.

Use plenty of shaving gel, trim before you shave, use a brand new razor, and moisturize a lot after.

Okay so the 'correct' shaving technique is firstly always use a newish razor so you can avoid irritation, razor burn and ingrown hairs.
Secondly then shave downwards with the grain, once you can't see any hair anymore, then re-soap and shave upwards against the grain.
Thirdly, feel around or use a mirror to make sure you haven't missed anything. Especially the bum crack.

Post shave it seems like you have some irritation. Pure coconut oil is recommended to help sooth any irritation or dryness in the skin.

It might be worth mentioning now your skin is exposed don't use normal shower gel or fragranced soap down below because if you have irritated the skin, these fancy soaps may sting and make the situation worse. I would use a fragrance free soap or a feminine cleansing wash.

Also you can buy a laser hair removal device to use at home. The Tria Laser hair removal device uses the same technology as they do in the clinics but its alot less powerful. I have one and it is working, as bald patches are coming through.

Honestly, the best thing to do is use electric/battery powered trimmers/clippers. Do it slow and take your time, and you will be fine. I do it everywhere on my body, have done for years. I only get itching, rashes and irritation when I use a razor, no matter how much foam or gel I use.
