Roleplay: "Re-invention"

A sadness overtakes Rowan's eyes and they blink back the tears, their face turning a deep shade of red. "Yeah... Sorry..."

 

David notices the tears and instantly feels bad. "I'm sorry...It's not that I don't like you..." He is struck by a thought. "Don't you have a boyfriend?"

 

"Yeah..." The tears start to fall again.

 

2+2=....

Realization overcomes David's face. "Am...am I your....are you my...."

 

Rowan nods slowly.

 

"Oh god...I'm sorry...I'm sorry..." David begins to scratch his wrists again, tears pooling in his eyes. "I-I don't re-remember..."

 

"It's ok..." Rowan hugs David tightly. "It's not your fault..."

 

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry." David scratches his wrists, quickly tearing through the bandages.

 

Rowan puts a hand on David's wrist. "Stop. You'll hurt yourself even more." Their voice is soft and quiet.

 

Tears fall thick and fast from David's eyes. "I don't remember! Why can't I remember!" he struggles against Rowan's grip on his hands.

 

"Calm down. Deep breaths." Rowan looks David in the eyes, breathing slowly.

 

David can feel his face starting to go numb as he begins to hyperventilate.

"Can't...remember....want..." His breathing is shallow and irregular.

 

"Deep breaths. Come on. It's ok. Doctor!" Rowan yells, then hugs David tightly. "It's going to be ok. But you need to calm down. Please. Deep breaths."

 

"Can't...you..." His eyes widen in fear, and his upper body goes numb.

Dr. Mann rushes into the room. "What happened," he asks seriously, rushing over to David.

 

"H-he started t-to hyperventilate... I d-don't know what t-to d-do..."

 

Dr. Mann sticks his head out into the hall. "Nurse! Two sedatives!" He goes back to Rowan and David. "It's going to be okay, just breathe." The nurse rushes in carrying two needles. The doctor takes one and plunges it into David's posterior. He immediately relaxes, and his breathing returns to normal as his eyes close. "There. He'll sleep for a little while, now." Dr. Mann turns his attention to Rowan. "Are you okay?"

 

Rowan nods shakily. "I think s-so... He's going to b-be ok, r-right?"

 

Dr. Mann sighs. "Well, brains can be tricky. They're complicated, and the smallest thing can damage them." He looks at Rowan. "Amnesia usually doesn't last long. But..." He trails off.

 

Rowan looks down, tears in their eyes. "C-can I please s-stay in this room with h-him? P-please?"

 

Dr. Mann decides to take pity on Rowan. "Okay. I'll arrange everything, we'll move another bed in here."
