You're in an elevator with two robots & two buttons. One Robot will always lie and the other will always tell the truth. You don't know which is which. You can ask one question and one of the robots will answer you. Of the buttons one kills you and the other will let you leave the elevator. What question do you ask and then what do you do after?

    Air? Like, his breath?

I have a few I got from my teacher last year:

    1. Joe wants to go home, but can't; the man in the mask is waiting for him. What is this?

    2. A horse jumps over a tower and lands on a man, who dissappears. What happened?

    3. Mr. White asks for tea, and gets $5,000. Then he asks for eyes, but Mrs. White can't give him any.

    4. A young woman is whisked away to a far off land where she kills the first person she meets. Then she teams up with 3 others to kill again. What is this?

number 4 is the Wizard of Oz!!!

    ----------

Say: "Point to the button that will kill me if you are the liar, else point to the one that will let me go free." The liar, will lie about being a liar and point to the 'free' one, the truth one will point to the 'free' button too. Then all you have to do is push the 'free' button.

technically that's a command not a question...and it would be a two-part question (are you liar&which is free) so the liar might lie to both or just one...sorry, I get bothered by this kind of stuff...

ANYWAY let me think of more riddles...
    ok I got one:
    the seller doesn't use it
    the buyer doesn't need it
    the user doesn't see it
    what is it?

I guess if meta questions (kinda cheating though) are allowed for the robot riddle you could go with "if I asked you if pressing this *points to a button* would kill me, what would your answer be?"

The reply given would be the truth. Asking the liar, it would answer a lie, so it would have to lie to you about it's answer, reversing the lie into the correct answer again.

Everyone loves a classic: what walks on four legs in the morning, two at noon and three in the evening?

    Agreed, it is a command.

Not the traditional answer I get, but that does sound like it works!

Eccentric it's man! As for the robot one - I guess I was trying a bit too hard on that one. I've heard another similar one. Here, tell me if you know the question to ask.

You come to a fork in the road. One road leads to the village of liars - and they'll kill you if you come to their town. The other road leads to the village of truth speakers, and they'll help you on your journey. A man from each town sits at the fork. You are allowed one question to ask before you must choose a road and continue down its path. What is your question, if you wish to remain safe?

"which way is to your village?" the liar will point you to the truth village and the truth speak will point you to their own village.

you could also ask either the robots or the men at the fork in the road, "Which way would the other guy tell me to go?", or "Which button would the other robot say would kill me?"

markio - so the truth sayer would normally point to the freedom button, and the liar to the death button. So, the truth sayer would point to the liar button, and the liar would point to the liar button.... omg! I understand it now!!!

This is actually pretty simple. you ask the robot, will I die if I press one of these buttons? and then the lying robot would say, no. But the truth telling robot would say yes. See you have to make it about the whole situation, not about the individual components. We already know that one of the buttons will kill me, so if you ask about both of the buttons as a group, there can only be one answer, and that answer is yes!

but that doesn't tell you which button to push! You only get one question
