I support anyone's right to like and indulge in what they want, but I wonder why so many people who are into anime are almost cult-like about it.

Honestly I have no idea then again I'm not to much into anime. I love it sure but I don't watch it day by day and such. A friend of mine who I don't talk to chase of this is ABSOLUTLEY obsessed with it. She has shrines for multiple animes and prays to each one morning and night and if u say u don't like one of the ones she watches she goes rabid fan girl on u for insulting it. Now I know not a lot of people are like this or at least not many I know of lol was just giving an example of one I know of and when being obsessed with anime is going to far. U can love it embrace it and so on but when u start trying to perform the rituals and building shrines I think that's a bit to far lol. Sorry I totally just went off topic considerably. I'm still a huge anime fan in into fanfiction a ton more I read it like everyday =P. I'll shush now and not go off topic again =S

I like anime, but worshipping and building shrines...

If I did something like that I think I'd have missed the point of being an atheist X3

This is a very simplified answer, so it won't be polished up:

Basically, Anime is very popular with most folks who, for one reason or another, feel isolated or like an outcast in some way. It's kind of a safety blanket. The reason these individuals become so "cult-like" is, they feel very attached to the fandom. It's an area they like and can feel valuable in.

And then you just have people who take it further. But the same could be said of sports fans, too.

This isn't universal mind you, but it explains the more extreme pieces of the community.

Mmmmm gimme some of that sexy Cthulhu action.... Break me off a piece of that mindflayer~ Ursula is my waifu<3

    :roflmao:

Nah, nothing wrong with some tentacle action really, I'm more partial to tails and animal ears myself though~ Idk, I think I'm kind of neutral to tentacles, it's not my fetish but I'm not against it either, I could totally enjoy some tentacles~ That Cthulhu though... Mmmm-mmnnn... They can cause me unending madness anytime~

Well, I've already mentioned vore, but that's very non-human centered. The really cool scenes are ones involving really awesome monstrosities, like either a dragon or a kraken. I just think that those kinds of things are really awesome and neat.

The original godzilla movies were virtually soft porn for me. I am not kidding. Gigantic beasts breaking shit? Yeehaw! That's a specialty fetish called "macrophilia." There is such a thing. To me, that is the hugest turn-on.

An example of the macrophile fetish in action was in Jurassic park, when they first showed that shot of the plant-eater rearing up on his hind-legs like some puppy, I died with love. When the thing stuck its nose into the tree, I was very enamored.

In Free Willy, the shot of petting on the orca's tongue, I was just hanging my head like, "Uh, uh-huh, uh-huh, uh-huh, yeah, I like that."

Pinocchio and his adoptive father in the belly of the whale, I liked that.

Jonah getting swallowed by a whale, sorry to all the Christians, but that's actually pretty hot.

In My Teacher Glows in the Dark, by Bruce Coville, they actually have a soft vore scene in there. It seems innocent enough, but it's soft vore, sorry. They also do that in The Search for Snout, where they go into the belly of that giant toad thing or whatever at the Mentat. They also have a lot of serious macro and transformation fetish throughout Coville's whole body of work. That man and his wife corrupted my mind. Them, that psycho-pervert Jane Yolen, and Mercedes Lackey, whose lead characters are all unabashed sex-fiends, including one of the first gay characters in the genre. It's all their fault.

My fetishes are very much centered around the science fiction genre, more than the anime genre. If you see it in good sci-fi and it seems vaguely suggestive, it's probably one of my fetishes. No, it's not a phase. I'm in my thirties, and I still love this stuff. I've been hooked since I was six or seven and ain't slowing down.

As far as fetishes that I really get into in real life, I don't do much. Really, I'm very vanilla in real life, and it surprises people who don't understand sci-fi fans. We're open to trying anything, but anything that we did in real life would be lackluster and hum-drum compared to the fantasy. Why spoil a good fantasy on an incompetent and misguided attempt to bring it halfway to life and end up messing it up for us? However, I did have an S&M top threaten to use me as a "demo-bunny" because I have very strong reactions, and she has a history of getting very dumb bottoms who try to be macho and suppress their emotions, making it hard for her to tell when she's actually doing something wrong. The fact that you don't need a safeword with someone like me, who is completely an open book under a light paddling, would make me a really good tool for demonstrating what is really good communication skills, which is important in S&M.

I find all-the-way-through tentacle porn hot, if it's drawn well.

I think that for me, the appeal of tentacles is that, because there are so many of the damn things, they can stimulate everything simultaneously, with coordination, endless strength, and without tiring. That's my kinda thing. Also the bondage and dominance. Also my type of thing.

Not a fan :/ Somehow I don't think the phrase 'lie back and think of Squidward' will catch on very well
