Would love to start a forum for guys over 40 and the challenges that we face given that fact we are considered to be past our prime in the gay world. (snicker). Seriously though, would love to hear from guys over 40.
Welcome to EC! I'm close - 38. You might try over at our "sister site". That one has a lot more folks over the age of 21...and over the age of 40, as well. Lex
Maybe we could have a section here for the other 35 crowd. Hmmm....some people just don't like all the "stuff" that comes with our "sister site" although some do!
Trust me - if it's a 40+ section, or even a 35+ section, I'm gonna doubt there'll be a "show me your stuff" page. Lex
Alex....:eusa_naug :eusa_naug :eusa_naug I believe a senior citizen is somebody over the age of at least 60!
>>>a senior citizens club...on EC! Yeah, alex, whoda thunk it? People with driver's licenses and pubic hair! Lex
The idea for a section that deals with “older” folks is pretty good as long as it doesn’t get too restrictive. Ideally, it would be a forum for inter-generational issues and questions. On the other hand, I’d hate to post something in the “over 40” section when the brilliant advice could come from a 15-year-old who might never look in the “oldie” section. I’m more interested in the topic than the age of the author. As far as exchanging information with older gays :tears:, PM works quite well without boring the rest of EC. Just my thoughts . If there were a separate section, I would certainly contribute as time permits. And thanks, Becky, for giving me 2 more years before I join the "seniors".
Sign me up, now! I agree somewhat with Lorenz. There is some brilliant advice around from the younger members. However, we don't have to restrict access to anyone so long as everyone realises it's primarily for those of a "certain age". No harm in seeing if it takes off?
Personally I am strongly against anything that suggests we are segregating specific groups of EC members. If we started having separate sections for lesbians, bisexuals, transexuals etc people would soon complain. Or sections for people of different races or countries. Having a section for a specific age-range is just the same. It is an arbitrary and completely unnecessary division IMO. We are already a minority group in society, and I am unhappy about anything that suggests we are dividing ourselves into further minorities.
Agreed Paul. I consider myself an honoured guest in EC. Being an "Old Guy".I derive a great deal of spirit from the youth in EC. At times I wistfully muse about the " If only I had.....at that age " line of thinking. There's no need for special sections. The existence of EC as it stands has helped me a lot and now and then I'm able to give a bit back,as well as having fun. Thank you EC.
Condoguyhfx - there really isn't a need to have a separate section for older guys. There probably aren't enough of us to warrant it. In addition, because there are so few, I notice posts / threads from the 'older' members and always make a point of reading and responding to them. It isn't necessary to have a separate section. PMs also work quite well - as I communicate with many of the people that have posted here through PM as well as through the forum. Finally, I'd agree that everyone - regardless of age - can have worthwhile suggestions on almost any topic. I like to offer my wisdom (gained with time) to some of younger members, and I appreciate hearing their perspectives on things. Besides - who said anything about us being past our prime at 40? At age 37 I'm in a new relationship with my partner, and I feel rather 'ageless'. My age is totally irrelevant. As the late James Brown exclaimed: I feel good! (!)(!)(!)(!)(!)
