I got this email in my spam, but it listed my mom's landline for some reason. It said it hacked the phone and took video and saw the last sites that were viewed and if i don't pay 1000 in bitcoin, they'll send that to all the contacts. Again, the number listed was a landline, not a cell phone, but it also said it would know if i had read the email or not, and while i didn't click open any links or anything, are they in my phone now getting all my info because i looked at the email on my cell phone? Are they going to do anything or is it a stupid intimidation nothing threat? Again, did NOT click any links in the email, just simply read it and flagged it.
This is a ransom scam that is going around. My IT department at work warned us about it. We were told not to respond in any way
Ok, did they say anything about if simply reading it can let the scammer do anything? I didn't click any links or respond or anything, I'm just debating about whether to go to the police or report it some way or what to do.
