My dog will not leave me alone

Huh, it's been a while since I had a dog. How old is she? Maybe she feels lonely, or needs more exercise, or there is some health issue. It's always hard to say just how dogs communicate. Are their other people around who can take her on walks and such?

This is a mild problem. With our dog, we trained her to stay in non-carpeted areas of the house, which meant no bedrooms, so she couldn't smell up the carpets after my parents installed new carpeting. I insisted on a female. They are supposedly more loyal and not as likely to roam. One time, she got out, but I found her sitting behind the gate, wanting back in. She preferred captivity, and being treated well, to her freedom in the big city.

Yeah, they will eat turds every once in a while. I scolded her verbally when she did that. As long as it's not too often. Must be something they feel they are not getting in their diet. It's also unhealthy and gross. Sounds like she needs some obedience training, but it sounds like she is really bonded to you, too.

 

I would love a little sidekick like that! Accept it, don't get mad at it.

 

Dogs are space.

 

my dog wont leave me alone ever, but he is always loved. they just need attention. maybe your dog just needs a little more than usual.

 

I mean that I find it odd that you do not count your dog with your space. I consider all of my pets part of my space, and feel most comfortable with them. I find it hard to mentally reason why you would not do the same.

 

Lock them up when you need space, but my dog does the same thing, and even though I get annoyed with it sometimes, I like having my little sidekick.

 

They are SO plugged into their owners, that they sense when you are not feeling well, either physically or emotionally. Some more than others. It's really amazing.

 

Thats an interesting thought, have you been sad recently OP.

The best way to deal with anxiety in a dog is exercise. I have a habit of rescuing dogs with unpleasant histories and serious emotional issues, so trust me on this.

Get the dog outside for walks or play time at the dog park, throw a tennis ball or whatever just wear the dog out as often as possible. You'll have a happier, healthier, less destructive dog.

 

Your dog probably feels your sadness, and its not only affecting you but the dog, when you start feeling better tell me if the dog leaves you alone, that would be cool to see if it truly was following you due to sadness.

 

I am not a dog expert. I barely know which end holds the collar...

That said...people who are dog people--and I mean serious dog people--have told me that dogs can sense a lot. One person even relied on the dog's judgment of other people (particularly strangers). If the dog didn't like someone, that person was someone to be cautious with.

So it's entirely possible that in this case the dog is picking your sadness up.

Then, again, maybe the dog just wants attention...
