I was tentative about making this thread, but something really sparked my interest recently. Okay, as we all know, the Supreme Court is expected to make a very important decision same-sex marriage within the next week. Now, that one thing that really sparked my interested was that they added more opinion days for this week.

I saw that they added Friday (June 26th) as an opinion day. June 26th was when two other major Supreme Court rulings for LGBT rights were made. Lawrence v Texas and Windsor v United States were both decided on June 26th, just 10 years apart. I skimmed the Supreme Court website for the past several years and saw no other time the court issued rulings on a Friday. From what I'm seeing, it looks like they want to make this ruling special by making it on yet another June 26th... which would only work if it's a ruling in favor of LGBT rights.

I suppose they don't need to push it to the very last minute like they usually do, because they probably already know the result and have the entire opinion written out. Do you think this is foreshadowing something big? because I think it is.

Hmmm...seems like it could very well be an omen.

I am anxious, though!

What worries me more than an unfavorable decision is that various states will find ways to erode away at it using 'religious freedom' laws, much like they have been eroding Roe V. Wade...

But I'm hopeful for a decent ruling.

Next we need equal rights in housing, employment and in general...that may take longer.

Oh! I really hope so, it seems like it is...
But yeah, like HuskyPup, it does worry me with those religious freedom laws. I'm really anxious for what they rule. C'mon America!!

Nervous, but looking forward to a pro-LGBT ruling. I feel like they've been dancing around this issue for so long...time to finally make a stance on it.

They'll make remembering history easier for future generations. I like that.

I'm almost certain they will at least partially rule in favor of same sex couples. If not ruling yes on question one (Do same-sex couples have a constitutional right to marry?), question two (Must states recognize same sex marriages performed in another jurisdiction where it's legal) is a slam dunk case for us, especially after hearing the story of the Obergefell's. Here's US Senator Cory Booker telling the story of Jim and John Obergefell.

Me personally, I do think that they will rule yes on Question One either 5-4 or 6-3, If Chief Justice Roberts wants his legacy to be somewhat positive on the bench of the most corrupt court in US history. Justice Ginsburg officiated a same sex wedding a few weeks ago and said "By the power invested in me by the US Constitution, I hereby pronounce you legally married". She emphasized the word "Constitution" which may be a major tell on the court's decision. It also would not make sense that the court denied a stay on same sex marriages in Alabama in February if they were just going to rule to put the ban back in place four months later.

It's amazing so far how many progressive victories there have been on the court this year. Let's hope we add at least two more with Obergefell and King vs. Burwell.

I certainly do believe that the ruling will be in favor of the LGBTQA community. However, I can agree with the worries of those above regarding religious freedom laws and such of that nature. But whatever it comes out to, there is no doubt in my heart that we will keep fighting to keep ourselves afloat and free to do what we want.
Best wishes and hàppŷ prïdę,

Wow, after hearing about the 26th thing I am almost convinced we'll get a positive ruling. I've been super nervous about this since I heard of it in the spring... But also tremendously excited that I will be living through history of same sex marriage becomes legal! I have a feeling one day, maybe 50 years from now, LGBT rights will be seen in the same light black rights are *sighs dreamily*
Religious freedom laws are worrying though, definitely.

I am pretty sure that there will be a positive ruling for LGBT marriage, but I am hesitant. I believe there are some states that will fight the decision. Several southern states put off desegregation for years after the federal ruling. I am sure there will be some people who refuse to do acknowledge the policy by claiming it is against their religion.

Oh, there is no doubt that Alabama would be one of those states. Considering they already defied a federal court ruling, openly homophobic Roy Moore would be happy to go against the highest court in the US.

*cough* (Lives in Alabama)

Yeah... x_x....

But a few months ago it's was said that gay-marriage was now legal in Alabama, but there's been quite a few judges and people still against it.

However, Alabama can't decline the federal court ruling for too long.

States will try to fight it, but they will eventually have to comply; they can't fight it forever.

I'm nervous but really excited. Is it confirmed that all the marriage decisions will be in on July 26th?
