Gee I just can't wait for Gov. Slam Bareback to sign this. Because we all know religious choices should be protected over unchangeable personal qualities.
I thought this was fake until I found a copy of the bill. It's pretty bad. Emphasis in original. However, I read a giant loophole in here. If ALL of the police, for example, decide that they don't like gay couples, and therefore refuse to stop an assault, then finding someone else to do it would be an undue hardship (they'd have to go hire a new cop).
This will not stand up to court challenges. Colorado tried to pass a law like this many years back, that would have made it legal to discriminate against gays, and it was struck down by the Supreme Court. I'm trying to recall the case, but it seems like it was at least a decade ago, probably longer. There's already legal precedent against such laws. Edit: Here's the case, Romer V. Evans In essence, the court decided that you can't make a law that says, go ahead, and discriminate. I'm just amazed they'd go this far. I think the right is starting to really freak out, and are acting like cornered animals, snarling and growling. In terms of seeing what actions are afoot to get his law thrown out, the ACLU might be a good place to start, as well as the HRC and the SPLC.
