It seems to me like lesbians are less widely-accepted than gay boys...?

Gay men have higher visibility and power, but face far greater social stigma. Anyone who is born male, and displays signs of femininity is judged more harshly than the other way around, so it's no surprise that most murders, assaults, and cruel stereotypes exist for gay men and other gender non-conforming males. And I'm not even going to bring up transwomen, who are women, but perceived as men, and suffer worse in this manner than anyone in the community in most ways possible.

I couldn't tell you who has it harder, overall, and wouldn't care to, anyway, since it's pointless, but anyone who denies that openly gay men don't top the charts, hand down, for being victims of violent assault and murder, is deluding themselves. This doesn't mean lesbians being objectified means acceptance. Are gay men who are seen and treated like some tired comedic routine "accepted"? No.

Again, it would be nice to have a few more transgender users who have lived on both sides of the fence to give a more neutral thought on the issue. Far too much bias in these types of threads to reach a conclusion peacefully.

In my opinion in Western society transgender individuals have it the most difficult. So we agree on that one.

However, I really disagree when you say that all through and through lesbians get less hate crime/difficulty than gay men. How would you know really especially in many countries in Asia and Africa? Women don't have any rights in let's say Saudi Arabia; now imagine that a woman is a lesbian and from there. Some one mentioned executions and I'll get back to that in a second. So I'll repeat that women have absolutely no power in countries like that; they can't even walk alone in public without a male escort (now, how would you find a lover with that? Near impossible). At least as a man, one has the freedom of movement and at least has the POSSIBILITY of finding others like himself. Women are taught to be subservient and voiceless to men; their opinion does not matter to the ruling class there so it's no surprise to me that their voices aren't really heard. So back to being a lesbian......so considering those conditions, where even domestic abuse and stoning women is of the norm, how do you expect a lesbian to get even close to being herself? You honestly don't think that if some man found out about her, let's say her husband, that he wouldn't beat her or "punish" her in some violent way? What if she was accused of lesbianism, at least a gay man could defend himself because he's still a man and his voice still counts, but imagine if your life was on the line and you had NO voice AT ALL about that. Also, think about this, unmarried men in these type of countries would be much more tolerated than an "unbounded" woman. A woman would be married off within seconds without her consent because even to a certain degree in Western societies but particularly (incredibly) in Eastern societies women are still taught that they "need a man" to operate.

Think about the fact that in a lot of African societies female genital mutilation is the norm. It's absolutely horrifying to think of the amount that women are repressed sexually even to the point that someone takes a knife and thread to her genitals and is still considered "normal". How stable would you think that coming out or being seen doing "lesbian" things in such a society would be? Where, you are even taken away the rights of sexual awareness and pleasure? I can write more but I'll let you ponder for a while...

I would argue that gay men have a better life than a given lesbian in these particular countries which constitute actually most of the human population; which is what leads me to include that the idea that lesbians have it "so much easier" is an incredible myth that needs to be erased.

Whether this is true in Western societies is debatable; I'll give you that one...but I find it incredibly ignorant of anyone to say that being a lesbian particularly in Eastern societies is a walk in the park.

Sexism and homophobia go hand in hand.

More countries allow lesbian marriage than gay marriage.
Yuri (Japanese girlxgirl) comics have far more acceptance than its brother genre, yaoi (Japanese guyxguy).
Lesbians generally have more leeway on self-expression.
Personally, I say the world should stop its bitching and just let LGBTs marry who they want.
It'll pass eventually; there have been times when being gay was normal, allowed, and whatnot...
