If there were a genetic test to prove you are LGB or T, would you take it?

No. I know who I am and I don't need a genetic test to prove who I am.

I would volunteer for the sake of science, but there is certainly no question.

At this point, I'm so homosexual its almost sad.

Think of the problems this would bring.
if they can genetically prove it, then how many groups would then think they could genetically correct it.
How many would abort a baby if they found out it had the gay gene? put the child up for adoption? kill it?
Bad science considering the general public opinion at this point in history

I probably would because I'm sick of being confused. I could also use it as proof of my sexuality when people think I'm just bicurious or experimenting.

I personally wouldn't because I don't need some test to prove who I am.

Definitely. All this about gender journeys, I admire that. But it's getting in the way of more important matters I have to take care of. I'd really like to know and just be done with it. I don't like this questioning stage.

Certainly. It would be nice to know if there's some sort of genetic marker for being transgender. It's already established that there's brain differences for transgender people.

Then again, I'm fascinated by genetics and I'm fairly sure that there's something genetic to it, given that I have a cousin who's trans.

I would for being trans. Then I could use it as proof for all my family and anyone else who wouldn't believe me. And it would get rid of any lingering doubts I might have.

I would take it, for the sake of personal curiosity and to settle various questions and doubts I still have. It would be affirming to know that my feelings are correct and also nice not to have to worry about somehow finding I am "wrong" in the future.

But yes, I could see there being ethical concerns. As others have mentioned, fetal testing could be an issue. We can also look to X-Men as a fictional example of how genetic testing of minority groups could cause discrimination (ie "The Mutant Registration Act" as a way to keep tabs on mutants could easily become the "LGBT Registration Act"). I think if such testing did exist it would hopefully occur in a time a bit more forward thinking than we are now. It's positive to see that gay marriage is moving forward and acceptance is increasing, but there is still a lot of homophobia in the world, as well.

No, the ethical issues bother me.

I think I would just so I could stop questioning.

It would be interesting, although I see issues with it if it were to happen.

Plus, I'm not too sure how accurate it would be, especially in regards to heterosexual and homosexual women. Physically, women are aroused by everything sexual, even if it doesn't match their gender preference or morals, and mentally, the brain can trick you depending on your social conditioning. Might end up with a lot of false results.

I guess I might try it so that I could use the results as evidence, since people don't believe me more than half the time. If I found the results of the test inaccurate, I would disregard them. I know I'm gay; no test could ever convince me otherwise. I would assume the test is unreliable.

I suppose such a test would be a problem because people might try to use it to find out people's orientations when they don't want them knowing, or if the test was inaccurate (like, told a gay person they were straight) it would cause the person a lot more confusion when they're trying to sort out their orientation.

Yes. But if it said I wasn't, I would still have my belief that I was born the wrong sex.

Hand it over and make my parents take it for the heck of it. I want them to see that this is real.

Only for the sake of science, but at this point, there's almost no argument that homosexuality isn't somehow caused by genetics in some way.

I probably wouldn't take the test, just be who I want to be! I mean, people should be free to identify and live their life how they want, and what they feel they are. A test would try and place them in a box, even if they are tons of boxes!
People who don't particularly like labels probably would be against it.
But I also think it would be handy for people who are questioning and have been questioning for awhile. It really depends on your situation, and if you feel you need to take it or not!
