What percentage of the population do you think is gay? I don't think that there have been any studies that have been all that accurate as people do not always admit to being gay... (lol I wonder why!).
It's very difficult to get an accurate statistic of how many people are gay. There's the fact that these studies have to rely on self-reporting (which is notoriously inaccurate), the fact that they don't account for homosexuals in denial, and the fact that "gay" is actually quite often an ambiguous term. I've heard anywhere from 3-10% of the population as being gay on various occasions. I would probably estimate a number around 5%, based on nothing more than a hunch.
See I have heard that, but do you really think that 1 out of every 10 people is gay? That seems like a bit too much to me. I would think like 1 in 20.
i would say probably more than 10%. i mean i'm a nobody with no real fact but if they can wip out 10% with people flat out saying they were, i would say a good deal more than that were in denial. but again, i'm no one important with no real facts. just an opinion.
I'd say roughly 3-4% of the population is utterly, completely gay. There's probably another larger group which would include people who are bisexual, questioning, used to be questioning, experimenting, or used to experiment. Adding them all up will probably get it to the magic 10%. Lex
I go by my mood. If I'm happy, I'll tell you that enough people are gay. Ex) "How many people do you think are gay?" "Enough." OR If I'm in a bad mood, can't find a girl, depressed, I'll tell you, "Psh. There's like NO ONE." But realistically all biases aside, I'd say about 7% of the population.
The statistics I hear in sociology usually vary between 5-10%. 7% seems to be the percentage that appears the most, but the statistics are always changing. I doubt there will ever be a way to know.
I've always been told that 1 in 10 people are gay and 1 in 5 are LGBT, at least, thats what my youth worker says.....
I've always heard the 10% statistic, but if I were to take this, I would include bisexual and questioning people in it. From absolutely no knowledge but a hunch, I'd put it at 3-5%, with 10% being a very inclusive way of calculating. I know that whilst I was in denial, if someone had asked me, I would answered incorrectly. Go figure. All of this said, from the people I hang around with, I'd estimate that 7 out of 10 people were gay or bisexual
I'd say that it is somewhere around 5%, give or take a point or two, but that is just a guess based off all the numbers I have seen.
Due to people being in the closet I think the % is unknowable. But I bet for every openly gay person there's at least 1 or 2 people in the closet. I think anonymous surveys on sexuality reveal a lot more same sex attraction than actual interviews with people.
