Sex ed. But I didn't pay much attention as I wasn't on yet. We also did a bit on the cycle and hormones in biology - i found that more fun. Probably learnt more when I turned 18 and switched to a divacup.
There was no sex ed at my school. I had heard other kids referencing it for a while, mostly through jokes about it, and I got tired of playing along without actually knowing what it was so just googled it and learned. I also realized that young kids should not google things like that, because it led me down a path of googling many, many things my 10 year old mind was definitely not ready to see at the time.
I've heard stories of girls who have never heard of periods and freaked out when they get their first period. I've not a woman but I have a somewhat similar story. Over ten years ago when I was in my thirties, I had my first heartburn incident. Since my first heartburn , I've had many heartburn incidence since. Coincidentally, my first heartburn incidence was the worst I've ever had. When I had my first heartburn incident, I had a tightness in the chest and I thought I was having a heart attack. I called an ambulance and went to the ER. I stayed in the hospital for two full days when they knew I had a heartburn incident within half an hour of my getting admitted in the emergency room. They kept me and did a battery of test on me to make 100% sure that my heart was healthy. I didn't know then that I could've signed a waiver and get out of the hospital anytime I wanted. The bill was 10,000 dollars. I paid 2,000 and the insurance paid the rest. Thankfully it only cost two thousand to find out what heartburn to feel like.
My mom told me lol. I got mine before I even started sex ed, the girls started sex ed when we were nine or ten I think while the boys played soccer. Even though I don't identify as female, obviously I got lumped in with the girls. I was so jealous But I still cried and freaked out even when my mom had already told me it would happen. I remember that day so well
I don't remember when exactly, just that it was some time around 5th or 6th grade when I was 11 or 12.
My mom told my sister and I about it. I got my first period on a Friday when I was 12. I know it was a Friday because I had a friend over and I doubled over from period pains and when I went to the bathroom, I noticed I had started my period and I rushed to my mom and my cousin's (now late) wife to let them know. They both laughed and said, "Welcome to the "big girl" world". My mom also told us about sex and we had books that showed us the difference between boys and girls so we knew about it by the time we had Sex Ed. I'll be forever grateful to my mom for telling us about these things when we were ready (She only answered questions in as little as possible detail, keeping things age-appropriate).
My mom had the talk with me when I was 9. No amount of "the talk" could have prepared me for what was to come.
My mom told me about the monthly visitor and asked if I knew what that meant. I said no. She said it's something that causes lots of stress. And I was like well is it someone who's super annoying that shows up to bug you? She laughed and said well its something not someone. Then explained what a period was.
I knew that blood came out of a woman's private parts when I was about 8. I didn't know why until we were shown a video when I was 11 in 5th class. There were different videos for girls and boys and they split us up. I left that school at the end of the year so I never saw the videos that showed in the next year.
