How did you find EmptyClosets?

One night I was Googling various things and a familiar, but different, site "Empty Closets" came up for a couple of them (coming out/gay related) then I went off and started searching out some music stuff (probably "gay songs" / "gay tv shows" or such like) and through another forum ended up back here so I ended up sticking around for the craic.

Just looking at my post history most of my initial stuff just under a year ago was just random stuff related to TV and Film but I do remember reading a lot posts from other people which helped me slowly started to accept myself.

I have a feeling I probably have a second account on here from about five years ago after stumbling across the site (inevitably while Googling) at around 03:00 in the morning while rather tipsy and needing somewhere to vent - IIRC the confirmation email didn't arrive until a few days later by which time I was suppressing my feelings again :bang: so it will have remained forever idle. :sleep:

Edit - just had a browse of my Google Web History and it shows I was searching for "gay male sportsmen" and "gay f1 drivers" that night just before my first post here so it was probably via one of those!

 

I googled 'LGBT forum' and it took me a few pages before I found a forum that didn't stink. I'm actually surprised at how uncommon good LGBT forums are. Most are pretty inactive or just plain don't exist.

 

I believe Empty Closets were having a Google Sponsored Ad campaign at the time, and I was tearing my hair out to work up the courage to come out to a guy who turned out to be gay anyway (he told me a few years later!) and googling for advice.

 

I Googled an lgbtqa related question and there was a thread on ec about that question but I can't remember the question

 

My good friends Heatqueen and Helen showed me the website back when I was Redsapphire.

 

As others have said, I Googled a lot of things regarding being gay, I had a lot of questions on my mind. I wanted to read other peoples coming out stories and experiences with being gay. A lot of the time it was EC threads that appeared, and it was months later after lots of lurking that I decided to join myself.

I actually felt real fear when joining EC, it was the first time I was going to be open about my sexuality, letting out thoughts that have haunted me and only me for most of my life. I even made a new email in fear that somebody would find out. xD

 

I used to go on the GYC before they shut it down and turned it into just a chat site.

 

I googled "how to deal with homophobic step parents" and fell into this lovely place.

 

Googled for an LGBT forum, landed here, immediately signed up

 

I don't remember. From Google I think.

 

I was looking up a LGBT safe forum, as a matter of fact haha.

 

How did you find EC?

just curious. I know I found it searching for a lgbt support blog on google when I was thinking about coming out to my parents.

I was searching for funny coming out stories since I needed to hear that they weren't all bad and found that huge funny responses thread on here.

I googled "how do I know if I am bi" and then clicked on another website. That website led me here. That was the first time I was here. The second time I ended up here, I found a link in a sixbillionsecrets comment. The second time I was here I registered.

I was looking for dating advise at the time, and BAM there it was. I didn't join until a month or so later

I clicked other, but come to think of it, I think Google is more or less how I found it. I remember looking at other sites (like PFLAAG) before finding EC.

Man.... I freaking don't remember. I wasn't searching for a support site, but I think I was just looking for a queer forum. Not sure if I Googled or what. Whatever, I just voted Google. All hail our overlords.
