How and why did you find Empty Closets?

I think this was the top-rank on Google for "LGBT forum."

Kudos to management if it still is.

I searched for coming out stories in Google an d it came up.
I spent months lurking and then I finally decided to join xD

 

I got redirected from a site I shouldn't have been viewing at the tender age of 16 :icon_redf

 

Saw it on another forum, and I joined immediately.

 

I'd wanted some kind of social interaction among other gays for a while, but never really actively looked for a forum. Recently, I was browsing around Yahoo! answers and saw someone had asked the question: are there any good gay forums out there. Looked at the Best Answer and they suggested this one and one other. I skimmed both of them and this one looked nicer... so I picked it.

 

Through the site-that-must-not-be-named. Lurked for a week or so and then decided to join up.

I was searching the Internet when I was first coming out a few months ago (and am happy to say I am fully out to family, friends, and peers, now, for a month). I have a history of being a user for online forum communities and was hoping to find a decent one that was active and wasn't an unpleasant community for the LGBT community and found this one. I lurked a bit and eventually joined.

 

I was looking up 'coming out stories' and 'coming out letters' on Google and some how I stumble upon this forum. Been lurking for a few weeks now, and decided to join.

 

I was actually out by the time I found this site. Instead, I was googling about people dealing with crushing on their straight friends. That somehow led me here. I lurked for maybe a few weeks and just joined yesterday

I was specifically looking for support groups after breaking down and coming out to some of my best friends. The worst of the storm might have been over by the time I joined, but I haven't really had an easy time accepting it myself, not so much because I believe there's anything "wrong" with it as it is because it's going to bring some new problems that I really don't feel like heaping onto my piles of current and future problems.

Even if I'm rather private, it helps just to see so many people in the LGBT community leading happy, normal lives and knowing that I can get advice from people who are actually in similar situations if I ever need it. Also, I like to lurk around online in general.

 

One day, I was home alone and I was on Pokecommunity forums (I'm a pokemon nerd ) and someone had a link to emptyclosets in their signature, so I clicked on it, looked around and joined.

 

Pretty sure I googled "coming out stories".

 

After wandering around the internet, I was linked to a site that had a link to a site that had a link to emptyclosets. I joined because I knew I was going to need support, and to be able ot talk to people who would understand what I was going through.

 

Haha same. I don't even know how I stumbled across that site, though.
